Before the recording, he quoted from Deuteronomy 8 - Since there will never cease to be some in need on the earth, I therefore command you, "Open your hand to the poor and needy neighbour in your land". We meet a very different thinker and protagonist who encourages the pursuit of evolutionary growth only after some sound reflection. Considering the impact for ourselves as much as for all those participating in the system. This is a very rounded view and seems at one level quite partial. Motivation. I'm covering the truly amazing #VillarsSymposium24 and listening to a panel on entrepreneurship. One of the questions to the 4 panellists was 'What was your motivation?' for starting their business. It's such a good and simple question and, as my business nears its 7th anniversary, got me remembering why I started. My motivation was twofold: to tell the stories of amazing business leaders and to create a completely flexible way of working so that writers (often women) who had been 'structured' out of the market could come back in, work at times to suit them and share their journalistic talent. Running your own business is always a rollercoaster - and the last year has def been that! - but I am proud to say that we have achieved both and are continuing to do so. I think it's important to stop and remember your original motivation. I'd love to hear yours. #entrepreneur #purpose #femalefounder

I'm so inspired by the network of purpose driven entrepreneurs I keep finding myself in the company of. Congratulations to MattsBBQ, ecoswap - gift better! & SHYNE, on their incredible pitches yesterday at Lloyds Banking Group. It was an inspiring afternoon. I remember Issa Rae saying stop trying to network upwards, look to your left and right first. So often we're trying to get the attention of 'superiors' when there is so much value you can create amounst your peers. Why spend your time chasing the wave when you can become it? Foundervine put on a sterling event Meta last month (shout out to Foundervine for all they're doing in the enterprise support space). Abigail and I worked together on a creative project years ago, and it just so happens we are now both trained wholistic body-based therapists. We've combined our expertise as practitioners, and Founders of tech-enabled artistic organisations, to create a something healing, targeted, and beautiful. We launched The Boundary Retreat for Black women on November 19th, and we are floored by the response so far. The early bird tickets sold out in a week. 50% of general release tickets have been sold on on organic reach alone. Business is about solving problems. The one size fit all approach doesn't work. People want a solution that works. We've gone to great lengths to create an experience that prioritises care, deep listening, and quality. The event takes place at Poplar Union on Sunday 15th December, A Gemini Full Moon. This is not a networking event. You won't be sold anything once you're in. The vibes will be safe, exploratory, and professional. We are trained wholistic therapists ready to share our expertise, tools, and resources to hold space for the necessary shedding of old narratives. This has been a labour of love. So Sian Lumsden and I are hosting a webinar at Harthill Consulting Ltd on November 5th. We'd love you to join us. We're calling it 'Our own Interior Condition'. For us this is an important area of exploration for #coaches. Full disclosure: it's a promo gig - we're hoping that a bunch of people who come along will be so into it that they consider signing up for the 2026 cohort of our Advanced Diploma in Vertically Developmental Coaching. This programme places a strong emphasis on everyone involved - Siân, myself and our programme participants - doing a lot of work on our interior condition during the year we're together. And over the years we've been humbled and inspired by the collective alchemy that emerges when we open our hearts to each other on the journey. BUT - not being overly in love with our own creation - we know, of course, that many of the attendees on November 5th won't be joining us on that programme - and so it's important to us that the webinar will also be a meaningful stand alone thing - unfolding meaning in its own right. Bill O'Brien once said 'The success of an intervention depends on the interior condition of the intervener' - Otto Scharmer re-stated this as 'The success of our actions as change-makers does not depend on what we do, or how we do it, but on the inner place from which we operate'. Inner Condition. I read somewhere recently that the space between any two humans who are in relationship is littered with projection and transference - and, of course the #coaching relationship is no different. The stuff that litters up our inner being has a habit of bleeding into the space we seek to hold for others. At least that's how it is for me. So our invitation is to come and spend an hour exploring this with us on November 5th. To be honest we're not sure yet what the hour will look like - but we know that whatever is meant to emerge will emerge as we open and become vulnerable together about the highly personal subject of coaching and our inner condition. 💻 After recently attending the Henley Business School Online Coaching Hackathon 2.0: Digital & AI Coaching, it's safe to say that many of us now have a deeper understanding of the opportunities offered by AI to the #leadershipcoaching space. 👋 A huge thank you to Jonathan Passmore for putting together this thought-provoking space where we could explore the good, the bad, and the better of digital technology and AI in the helping professions and disciplines. 📊 There were too many learnings for me, an AI novice, to do them justice with a summary. But as an experienced executive coach of a certain age, I'd be remiss not to highlight the #Coaching Trends shared in Jonathan's opening: 1️⃣ Professionalization - qualities and standards 2️⃣ Technologies - digital, AI, VR, photorealistic codec 3️⃣ Industry - commercialization and productization 4️⃣ Antidigital - arts, nature movement 🧠 For those of us who are not digital natives, the thought of AI taking over our jobs may incite some initial anxiety, which is natural - that's how our brains are wired. I wonder if, in a confounding of conscious and unconscious biases, that anxiety is getting collectively amplified and channeled as denial, resistance, or even antagonism. 🚂 This is akin to the 3rd industrial revolution, which I discuss in my book Scientists in Every Boardroom. Those of us in the #evidencebased #leadershipdevelopment field need to expand our perspectives in service of an inclusive and sustainable world. Hence, I was especially grateful for the clarifying moment co-created by AI researcher, colleague, and fellow #STEMM coach, Prof. Nicky Terblanche (PhD). Below is a screenshot of one of many favorite slides of the event! 👩‍💻 It's been suggested that my passion for tech has to do with my STEMM background in the physical sciences, followed by many years in the coaching psychology world. I suspect it's also related to my late husband's (Darrell) influence. He was a software development genius (literally) and an industry pioneer and leader. For 20 years, I was part of an amazing journey of digital innovation within a late-adopter market segment. Our son Isaak Campbell is following in his footsteps and I couldn't be prouder.
