It’s always interesting what comes out of the Listening Partnerships with Rebecca Daniel (ICF PCC, EMCC Snr Practitioner, ESIA) and Sarah Bramall PCC, Senior Prac EMCC, and last week was no different. I posted recently about aligning my services and pricing with my values, but realised I missed out a big one: comfort! Comfort is a massive deal for me - not just in business, but in life. I’m all about pyjama days, fluffy slippers, and prioritising comfort over fashion (though I’m sure I could have both if I dedicated some time to it). I’ve dealt with eczema for years, and leaving clinical nursing where I was often dehydrated, constantly handwashing, and eating erratically, did wonders for my skin. But since the birth of my kids, I’ve developed psoriasis, and that brings a whole new level of discomfort. I’ve thrown emollients, steroids, vitamins and all sorts of weird and wonderful things at it over the past six years and it has been frustrating. But last Friday was the final straw: I realised I needed to change something significantly when showering made me cry. I was in so much pain and I needed to take back some control. I made a drastic decision and decided to reset. I decided to cut out some of the things reported to be linked to flare-ups: caffeine, added sugar, and alcohol. Just for a week. It was harder than I expected. I don’t drink much alcohol, but cutting out 3–4 cups of sweet coffee a day hit me like a tonne of bricks: headaches, muscle pain, exhaustion. My body screamed for caffeine, and I felt ridiculous. How did I let myself get so dependent on something that my body rebelled without it? I’d be lying if I said I don’t feel a bit embarrassed! Here’s the thing though – as you all probably guessed, my psoriasis improved drastically in just five days. So now I need to work out my priorities: keep up the caffeine or slowly reintroduce it and see what happens? I’ll work it out, but what struck me was that constant cycle of frustration and discomfort led me to just keep adding things to my body and lifestyle in a hope that the combination would make things better; sometimes all we need is to just go back to basics. My body craved comfort, fought back when I removed what I thought was comforting it, but is now healing and feeling so much better. What tells you you’re missing something vital? Here is a great example how "WORD PLAY" works?? There is a character from "John Wick - 3 (Parabellum) called as Adjudicator. It's spelled as Ad-judicator, however this role is purely adju-DICTATOR. 👑 Hereditary peers, new ideas 👑. Charlie Courtenay , Earl of Devon, rightly says that they bring some diversity into the UK House of Lords, and may also be able to think longer term than politics generally allows. Charlie, have you considered the excellent post created recently, of #FutureGenerations #Minister for Welsh Government ? Might this be a way forward? Derek Walker, do you think this might be a way of bringing longer-term thinking into the UK Parliament ? Secondly, to address #diversity, how about a #CitizensAssembly in the UK House of Lords ? Exciting news! After 40 hours of training, a written exam and practical assessements... I PASSES !!!!! And became an accredited mediator with the London School of Mediation. The purpose of getting this accreditation is to develop further the support I provide to my clients to resolve conflict. Sometimes, coaching suffices, but when the conflict has gone on for too long, neither party is prepared to compromise, or they feel too hurt, we may need a different approach.   I can now mediate to help resolve workplace conflict in areas such as; 🟠 Grievance & Complaints 🟠 Disciplinaries 🟠 Unfair dismissal claims 🟠 Interpersonal conflict  🟠 Team dynamics 🟠 Management & employee disputes And outside of the workplace, I can mediate in areas such as; 🔵 Residential property disputes i.e boundaries and disagreements with your neighbours 🔵 Contract disputes i.e building contractor issues, supplier disagreements  🔵 Consumer disputes Mediation is seen as a more efficient, cost-effective, and less adversarial way of settling disputes. Its benefits include saving time, reducing legal costs, and providing both parties with a more flexible and collaborative environment to reach a mutually acceptable resolution. Really interesting article here, thank you to Paul McGregor of Everymind at Work for sharing the article and his thoughts on it. As an MHFAid instructor I sometimes hear people say 'MHFAid doesn't work', when I ask why I am told 'because they aren't qualified.' In a way I partly agree with them, MHFAiders aren't qualified but that was never the role, their role is to spot the signs of poor mental health, listen and signpost to professional support. I am proud of the work I do and highlight having MHFAiders is only the first step, having a clear plan in place is how you can increase your chances of it working. This plan should also be reviewed regularly. There a number of things in this article I want to highlight: 26% of the people in the survey said they were frequently asked to go beyond the signposting role. This is alarming if it is their employer that has asked them this and more awareness of the limitations of the MHFAid role needs to be gained. The MHFAider should be signposting to that professional support, not giving it. I make this very clear in my training and also encourage regular meetings for MHFAiders to discuss issues such as this. Only 29% have been given additional support to help them deal with the challenges of the MHFAid role. I always talk to learners about this, there should be a support system in place for MHFAiders both internally and externally through their EAP's and/or professional support. This can be done well in my experience with some brilliant organisations. 'This has led to a much greater volume of contact with EAPs and, more worryingly, a trend for that demand to include far more serious and emergency cases of mental ill health.' If a MHFAider has signposted somebody to a counsellor through their EAP then I think that is a brilliant result, would that person have reached out to the EAP if they hadn't had that initial conversation or the MHFAider hadn't spotted the signs? I wrote a blog recently to debunk some of the myths and negative assumptions made about NLP. One of them is that NLP makes people do things against their will - this is just not true. Manipulative behaviours, seduction, coercion and control existed long before NLP. There have always been unscrupulous people around who behave in ways like these. Anyone who experiences coaching or training with a registered NLP practitioner or trainer will know we have a code of ethics. Ethical practice is about increasing choice and empowerment - not control. It’s about ‘do-with’ not ‘do-to’. We look a the whole ecology - how will any changes that the client wants to make affect them, their family, other relationships, the community and the planet more widely. It's important that changes are beneficial at all levels because everything is connected energetically. We’re all part of a greater whole - all systems within systems. What NLP can do is help you recognise those who use manipulation or coercion techniques and have you be more empowered. Want to know more? What makes you happy? This might seem like a bit of a daft question - after all, surely it's something we should know intuitively? But it can feel like a very vague notion if you can't remember the last time you thought about who you are when you're not at work. After starting to experience a nagging feeling in my early forties that something was missing, I eventually had an epiphany: I didn't have to 'wait my turn' or wait for someone to rescue me - I could just get cracking and create my own happiness. But I didn't know where to start! I realised I had so much to learn about myself that outside of work, I didn't even know what made me happy and excited anymore I felt lost for a long time. I went to events and joined clubs to search for a sense of purpose and belonging but didn’t find either. It was frustrating and I had quite a few weekends of feeling lonely and empty. It felt like doing a massive treasure hunt with the shittest map ever. Eventually I had an idea to start up a writing venture. It was originally going to be called The Ghostwriter because it was based on teaching other people how to write their stories, or writing them on their behalf. I wanted to share my story too, but I just wasn't brave enough. Frustratingly, the way forward only revealed itself a bit at a time, but I knew I'd taken a major step forward because I'd developed the ability to identify when I was on the right track. Going with that feeling of possibility and optimism meant I got much clearer on what brought me joy and purpose, and from that point a lot of things clicked into place. Since deciding to face my fears and publish my very first blog, my Instagram community My 40 Plus Life has brought me so much of the fulfilment and purpose I was looking for. In spiritual parlance they call this stuff 'following your breadcrumbs'. It's that feeling you get when you're onto something that lights you up; something you want more of. It might be writing, yoga, running or volunteering. Whatever it is, when you find it, do more of it, even if you don't have time. Even if you spend every spare second on your work. In fact that's when you need to find it the most. It might take quite a few weekends and evenings doing things you don't feel are quite right for you. You might also still have lots of weekends at home watching boxsets when you know you 'should' be out doing something (I had many of those, and still do, but now it's on my terms). But if happiness, joy and purpose is something you've promised yourself, learning to follow your breadcrumbs is a very wise place to start. As my clients know, I love writing. I've had a few clients recently wanting to work on how to have potentially sensitive or 'difficult' conversations of one form or another. Whilst I tend not to find anticipation of a 'difficult' conversation useful (after all, its not like a sabre tooth tiger is really coming at us and we need our brains to work with us on this!), I do love working in this space. As a reformed people pleaser it's an area dear to my heart that's made a huge difference in my life over the years. It's reminded me of some years ago, in a Change Leadership role for a large corporate, when I was supporting leaders with culture change. We were reviewing the high level data on outcomes from the latest round of performance and development conversations and were faced with the glad tidings that the entire team in our part of the business were either performing well or performing exceptionally well. The only issue with the data was that leaders were speaking with me about team members who needed significant development and support with performance challenges and certainly weren't at a level to be described as performing well! - We had a mismatch. Further exploration and curious questioning revealed the real issue - many leaders weren't comfortable in having conversations about poor performance or development areas. It was a real turning point for us - personally I had the opportunity to develop my first 'Real Conversations' workshop, which I delivered to my leadership teams and supported with coaching around specific scenarios they were struggling with. For sure next round we could be more confident in knowing that, whilst our data didn't look so beautiful, it was closer to reality and could truly support us in targeting performance and development needs and making real change. And as leaders isn't this what we need to do? ... be prepared to have those conversations that, whilst they may feel uncomfortable, are about what's really going on and edge us into that space of making a real difference to our people, organisations and clients ... I still love Susan Scott's book, 'Fierce Conversations' in this space. It's been around a while but it's a classic that I highly recommend if this is an area of interest to you.

Yesterday, I gave contradictory advice to a number of clients ... 😲   Why?   What is ideal for one, could be a disaster for another.   You can receive seemingly wonderful helpful advice from 'all the places' on next steps for your career growth, but now you're realising this advice is too general. What you really want is someone who deeply understands you, your career history as an EA and your expertise and to give you personalised guidance that will ACTUALLY move the needle with your career growth.   Before connecting with me, my clients were already doing ‘all the things’ to try and progress their careers themselves but what they really needed to expedite their results, was personalised feedback and guidance that was specific to where each of them were at and where THEY want to go and not anyone else.   Examples of personalised feedback I gave clients looked like this...   🦄A client who is done with her EA career and wants to secure an external, higher level role. Guiding her through the tweaking of messaging in her resume and LinkedIn profiles so she could confidently start applying for Operations and Chief of Staff type roles…   🦄 A client who already receives 'exceeding expectations' on every performance review but wanted to learn how to elevate her partnership with her Executive by gaining a thorough understanding of business strategy. This has allows her to now confidently partner with her manager so she can take the lead with driving business priorities.   🦄 Supporting a client with multiple qualifications (including a degree) with preparing for an upcoming development discussion to ensure a golden opportunity wouldn't be missed to discuss her desire for further career growth. E.g. how to approach that conversation with the information she had to hand to ensure it had an optimal outcome.   🦄 Helping a client gain clarity around her strengths, weaknesses and opportunities to showcase her unique selling points that will help position her as a stand out candidate for a higher level role she wants to progress to. We also mapped out her initial career growth roadmap to help her focus on clear next steps to achieve career progression.   The reason you feel frustrated right now that you aren't where you'd like to be with your career growth, is because, until now, you've only received very general advice for how you should take action with your career growth. When you receive personalised support and guidance with YOUR career growth journey that is meaningful for you, will be precisely when you see a change in your career!   💎If you’re ready to progress from your EA role, send me a private message with the word ’READY’ to explore if one of my 1:1 or group programs might be a possible fit to help you achieve your career goals.

Caretaking: Rotating responsibility for team lunches to reinforce our shared commitment to each other. Learning: Our "Scooby snacks" ritual to reinforce rigor, positivity, and a growth mindset.

I was delighted to share '3 top tips for befriending your inner critic' for the Thresholds Ltd blog recently. So many of us are held back by our own negative inner voice, which often can sound like: > I’m not someone who... > I will never be able to... > Who do you even think you are... > You’ll never succeed so you may as well give up > You’re not as good as x, y, z.. What does yours sound like? There are ways we can reduce the impact it has over us, reframe it to be more empowering and even befriend the inner critic.
