The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) and The Open University recently revealed the results of a survey exploring the current working landscape for businesses, and some of the figures shared in an article by HR News on the subject were quite eye-opening. Businesses must invest in their people, and not just for today but for the future too. It is vital that our people feel valued in the workplace, and they in turn will feel happier at work and more productive. It is time for businesses to re-think their talent acquisition strategies, and embracing skills-based hiring is one crucial step we should all take. Sustainable growth depends on businesses addressing skills gaps and investing in their future. We recently held a session at Aylesbury Grammar School where we shared the importance of highlighting skills on CVs. We believe that it is never too early to think about the skills that you are building everyday and the difference that they can make. It is important for employers to recognise the value that these skills can bring to their organisation.

Pierre-Jean (PJ) - Interesting points and clearly very relevant in present times. Particularly since the pandemic, we’re living in an era where there’s a clear need for a more authentic, empathetic “servant leadership” to ensure the organisation connects with its workforce. That said, could we say that Jack Welch’s time was in another era where leadership was differently defined? Classic example being Winston Churchill who was considered a great “wartime” PM but not suitable for “peace time”? This brings me to a blog I had penned during the pandemic on People Management, especially in start ups and SMEs but also applicable to larger companies. I think it’s still relevant and thought I’d share here. Comments and challenges happily taken. :)

The economy is continuing to create jobs, with another 51,500 added in the year to Q1 2024 in a range of areas," said Dr Loretta O'Sullivan, chief economist at EY Ireland. This is a really interesting article about succession planning and the 9 box grid assessment method. I've been speaking to many HR and Talent Leaders over the last few months and it seems a lot of organisations still use this method, or a variation of. In my opinion there isn't a one size fits all method to talent assessment. Thoughts?

How excited we were about the possibilities of a future that freed our innate curiosity with a desire to explore, create and embrace what felt important about life. How we hoped that John Maynard Keynes 15 hr week was so much more than a hopeful prediction. So we could imagine a world not solely anchored by meaningless work. But decorated with moments of contemplation on a future that embraced not only creative pursuits but also allowed us to pursue a future world whose goal was "Making Life Better" for everyone What if the goal of every organisation and institution was to "Make Life Better" - For all its employees and their families. - The community it lives within. - The customer and suppliers it serves and is served by. - The earth and ecosystem that we live upon. How would life be more purpose filled if every interaction we had was based on making life better for everyone, not just for the shareholders at the cost of the employees not just for the customer at the cost of the environment. What is your organisation’s #response to #major #events and how can your #HR team support your leaders?
