📢 NORTH EAST GRANT FUNDING OPPORTUNITY 📢 Investor Partnerships in digital technologies, North East: Rd 1 UK registered SMEs can apply for grant funding for projects that grow their innovation activities in the digital technologies cluster in North East England (Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, and County Durham), alongside investment from selected investor partners. Competition opens: Monday 4 November 2024 Competition closes: Wednesday 11 December 2024 11:00am To apply your business must: ·      be a UK registered micro, small or medium sized business (SME) ·      carry out all of its project work in the UK ·      intend to exploit the results from or in the UK ·      be invited to apply by your investor partner ·      have agreed your proposal with your investor partner before submitting be able to complete the aligned investment before the start of your project, through the issue of new shares or convertible debt ·      have sufficient capital resources to enable you to meet all your project’s eligible costs, including through the grant funding and the aligned investment For all projects, your project must: ·      not start before 1 May 2025 ·      end by 31 December 2026 Your project’s total costs will depend on your research category and must be between; ·      £50,000 and £300,000 for feasibility studies ·      £100,000 and £1 million for industrial research, ·     £250,000 and £2 million for experimental development. The projects will be led by ambitious UK registered micro, small or medium sized businesses (SMEs) who will use the funding to grow their innovation activities in the digital technology cluster in North East England, both during and after the project. The aim of this competition is to provide support for your research and development and access to the capital investment that you need to develop and commercialise your innovations and grow your business. Surely having input from outside FI would render any response more relevant and more reflecting of wider context of finance? Following the launch of the Mansion House VC Compact earlier this year, British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (BVCA) Pensions and Private Capital Expert Panel has just published an Interim Report with proposals to help #UKpensions unlock private capital funds. The detailed report features an array of recommendations, from regulatory changes to reporting standardisation. Speaking with Preqin News, Albion's Christina Theilgaard shares: ‘There is definitely a requirement for some standardisation for evaluation of private funds...In certain industries in the US, they have standardised templates that are used by all big institutions, which makes operations easier, cheaper, and better for everyone.’ Full article below. Today’s budget announcements reveal a challenging landscape for UK entrepreneurs and SMEs, as Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves’ first budget underscores a range of new tax measures set to impact business owners across the country. With a community of over 30,000+ SMEs, E2E Enterprise has been a vocal advocate for the needs and growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, yet today’s budget highlights a concerning shift in government support for the business sector.   The proposed increase in Capital Gains Tax (CGT), along with the hike in employers’ National Insurance (NI) contributions to 15% starting April 2025, directly affects larger SMEs, who are the backbone of economic growth and job creation. Additionally, changes to Business Asset Disposal Relief, and the capping of Business Property Relief at £1 million (with a 50% discount on the remainder), could challenge the sustainability of family-owned businesses, further straining SME cash flow and growth prospects.   Moreover, the 20% Inheritance Tax (IHT) now chargeable on most AIM shares, previously a 40% benefit, threatens to reduce market liquidity and limit funding options for SMEs reliant on AIM investments. Combined with the end of Non-Dom Status, VAT charges on private schools, and increased stamp duty, these policies may deter foreign entrepreneurs from considering the UK as a viable location for new ventures.   These changes have sparked significant concern within the E2E Enterprise community, with many members expressing frustration and even reconsidering the UK as their primary base of operations. The article covers: 1. The role of #DLT, #DeFi and #digitalassets (#cryptoassets) in accelerating #UK #economic and #financialservices growth, especially in #capitalmarkets 2. The opportunity for #digitalassets and #NFTs to #tokenise #illiquid assets, enabling #fractionalinvestment, and for #data #analytics to optimise #captial allocation 3.
