Exciting news for SMEs! The UK IPO has launched a new scheme, IP Advance, offering financial support to SMEs. Many SMEs with valuable IP have been deterred by the high costs of implementing an IP strategy. This offers a solution. I share my thoughts on what it takes for the IPO market to open up more broadly in this article. “For momentum to be sustainable, capital markets lawyers say recent IPOs need to perform well long after their debut. That's especially so of the technology and biotechnology sector, which is home to many high-risk, but high-reward younger companies. "In order for the IPO market to open up for more companies, we need to see some first-day trading pops that have staying power," said Jeremy Glaser, a partner and co-chair of the venture capital and emerging companies practice at Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky and Popeo PC. "Astera Labs is a good example of one that has performed well which sends a good signal to the IPO buyers."  Glaser also cautioned that many other AI-related companies are early stage with little to no revenues. But he said Rubrik, which has $677 million in annual revenue, will be worth watching. "Rubrik has held up so far," Glaser said. "Let's see if it holds the price or, better yet, increases, over the next few weeks and then we will have a better sense if we will have a more robust IPO market in 2024.
