🌍 Ready for Recycling Legislation 31st March 2025? 🌍 My role as Head of Commercial New Business means I'm talking to prospective new clients daily, and there's one subject that I hear the same response, in that everyone seems to be aware the waste legislation change on the 31st March 2025, but I've not heard many people say they are underway with surveys or placing initial orders. From a supply chain perspective, we can now predict that demand will be super high from The New Year to Q2, however currently there is a window where manufacturers are stock piling and the demand is low therefore we currently have the resource to support with evaluations and surveys, plus there will be likely incentives for early orders pre Christmas. Really interesting debate on Fabric First and Heat Pumps. As someone who has designed heat pumps that have been installed in uninsulated listed buildings with SCOP's over 3.5 and also someone who works as a Coordinator on large PAS20235 schemes where Fabric First is the regulation... the differences in opinion and need for a nuanced consensus is very obvious. Fabric First works but Heat Pumps also work in all buildings. There needs to be a middle ground that allows for both solutions. This podcast is really worth a listen. As are all of the Betatalk podcasts by Nathan Gambling. Some comments.. Fabric First is PAS regulation. We must follow it on all schemes. Installers are not installing heat pumps because they can't insulate the walls. This is an ongoing 'discussion' Dartmoor Energy constantly challenges. 'Heat Pumps are more efficient in efficient buildings'.. not true. There is industry wide confusion on what 'efficiency' means. Lower running costs and less energy used.. yes. More efficient... that depends on the design. 'Efficient' buildings can have very inefficient badly installed heat pump systems. 'Inefficient' buildings can have very efficient well installed heat pump systems. 'A database on retrofit work to buildings like a building passport.' This is the idea of the Trustmark Data Warehouse. It is being done. As long as it is lodged (must be if using Government funding). Fabric 5th? Fabric 1st? Fabric upgrades where possible.. definitely.. thermal bridge considerations.. DEFINITELY! No one speaks about the embodied carbon of insulation upgrades.. this isn't a data point anyone really looks at. An ongoing debate that needs everyone's attention...
