AI isn’t just a technological advancement; it’s a leadership challenge—especially when it comes to ethics and governance. This morning, I had the opportunity to lead a lively discussion on Ethics & Policy as part of our AI Adoption Programme. We spent 90 minutes exploring what it really means to use AI responsibly in the workplace, examining 6 different real-life scenarios that are almost certainly playing out in nearly every organization today. The goal was to move beyond compliance, moving to a mindset where AI use is empowered, informed, and above all, accountable. We explored what needs to be considered in deciding when and how AI should be used, how important it is to have that "human in the loop," and the ongoing tension between risk and reward. One thing became clear: Generative AI is full of grey areas. Companies that rely solely on AI governance policies to guide employees are setting themselves up for confusion, covert use of AI, and, ultimately, a cap on innovation. Jonathan Garrett - Our programme together on Behavioural Safety programme came to mind—we drew parallels with the Safety Culture Maturity Curve when talking about AI use. There’s so much crossover in how we think about risk, responsibility, and culture!! Daniel Hobson - The "Billable Hour" was again a topic of discussion!

Last week, I facilitated the TransforMe Learning & Leadership Solutions Personal Mastery Lab as part of a senior leadership intervention for the incredible team at Sapiens. Each time I facilitate a TransforMe lab, I am reminded of the huge power of the process, the value of real authentic conversations over role plays and the impact of a “shake up in a sensitive manner”… When I see each leader not just taking away key implementation insights to unleash their potential - but actually experiment in the lab and discover options they never knew existed - those are the moments I truly feel grateful to be in this space. It’s amazing to see leaders who may start of “transactionally” and perhaps a bit sceptical… and then to witness them unleash themselves - wow… what an amazing group this was! That’s how we broke down walls, and turned authenticity and vulnerability into a transformative experience. Compiled from the Office for National Statistics Labour Force Survey, this is the most accurate look into the IT profession in the UK, and what it shows is sobering. With only 21% of the IT specialists in the UK being women, and only 1% Black women, action is needed across government, education, and industry to create more opportunities for women to enter tech, and to thrive and progress in their tech careers.

We are half way through the current Ethical Leadership Programme and deep into the HOW of what it means to lead ethically. One of the participants shared that she had started to make more time to listen carefully to her team members without multitasking and the difference it had made to the exchange and depth of conversation. This week we have reflected on some of the following questions: 🌿 What have you noticed in yourself and others this week? 🌿 What attitudes have you noticed in your leadership?  🌿 Have you found ways of connecting with others, of staying open even if perhaps you wanted to withdraw, cut them off or avoid them? 🌿 Have you met others’ wants and needs or pursued mainly your own interests? 🌿 What have you learned and done differently?  🌿 What else has mattered to you this week? We've also explored the next two attitudes that are crucial to leading ethically: Generosity and empathy. I remeber the call from a CIO asking for help in the companies Agile Transformation. Can you please help….why ? Because the transformation focused to implement structures and ways of working to benefit speed, effectiveness and customer quality. What was forgotten was that we human beeing to understand to change. Leaders need to be trained and often coached to create the space so these tools work. Without this.. you spent millions and the benefit will not come. I supported and a people work stream was added to the transformation … surprise surprise blockages suddenly moved and engagement went up. The investment was suddenly working as it should. You know you’re on the right path when the end feels sad. Last night was the final module of the pilot for my Bright Light Leaders programme. A group of 10 like-minded, growth-seeking women joined me as we explored topics ranging from leveraging our inherent strengths to building our capacity through nervous-system regulation to archetypal patterns and developing our intuition and finally, to communicating with clarity and conviction. And of course, the Enneagram provided an insightful thread that weaved its way through the full voyage. To say this group was special is an understatement. The chemistry between all 10 participants felt strong right from the start, maybe because each and every one of them didn’t sign up on a whim or without really thinking it through fully. They all recognized a need in themselves to do life differently: to figure out how to stop giving their power and way and to start living life in a way that feels true to who they uniquely are. Whilst this programme is essentially a leadership programme, the shifts have shown up for each woman in very different ways. One is finally making a city move that she’s been dreaming about for more than 15 years. One has quit her job to start her own business, and has made the brave decision to part ways with her long-term partner. Another has found her voice at work and is starting to take more credit (and more space). One is feeling ready to step into her next life transition. And one dear young woman has found an anchor and a support in navigating her way through cancer. At the end of the call, most of us stayed online to continue chatting, not quite willing to press "leave meeting". We talked about the potential for a reunion event and a “next” programme. For me this is a true indication of what has transpired in this space over the past (nearly) 6 months. And it’s these moments that remind me why I do the work I do.
