Webinars that are sales pitches in disguise make me less likely to buy your product… There I said it 😅 I wholeheartedly believe that webinars can be great. If you focus on delivering real value to the audience and give them actionable takeaways or insights that they maybe wouldn’t know. I love that… it raises brand and builds authority for you which will no doubt ultimately deliver you sales. But don’t pretend you are going to share knowledge and bring on a customer to go through a case study (unless it has some real learnings and is super interesting) If I wanted a sales pitch or demo I would have booked one, I wouldn’t have booked a webinar. Don’t waste people’s time. Deliver value, your brand reputation will be elevated and the sales will follow. When the webinar attendees come across a problem related to what you do, they will come back to you who helped them and positioned yourself as the expert in their eyes. As a mentor, it's my responsibility to protect my clients and that can sometimes mean having uncomfortable conversations. AD disclosure has become a bit of a hot topic this year (thanks in part to the AD disclosure education icon, Alice Bull) and yet on an almost daily basis I see influencers who I know work 1:1 with a coach/strategist making content that is obviously an AD with zero disclosure. I have a feeling that this post may be a little controversial but imo it's on you, as a coach/strategist/mentor to ensure that any creators you work with are disclosing their ADs. I had a situation last week where I saw content from one of my influencers without any disclosure. I immediately messaged them, reminding them of the ASA guidelines and encouraging them to edit the post. They did, immediately. (It was an honest mistake.) There was no doubt in my mind when I went to message that creator. I know that these conversations can be uncomfortable at times. But, if I don't have those conversations I'm not doing my job. Every single time I'm planning a mentoring session for a new creator, I go over AD disclosure guidance for their region to make sure I can give them the right advice. It usually takes around 10 minutes. Keep track of your influencers, protect your influencers. Real marketing isn’t selling. It isn’t transactional. It isn’t manipulative. It doesn’t exploit people's anxieties to persuade them to buy what isn’t good for them. Real marketing enrols people on a journey that will take them to where they want to be, in a way that is congruent with their values, beliefs and style, so they can join the tribes that feel like home for them, with the status they seek. All without harming anyone or anything else in the process. Consider all this for a while, and you'll realise we simply can't carry on with 'business as usual'. Something's got to give. Let's make sure it's the right something.

What's the no 1 quality you should look for in a PR agency? ✨ Curiosity ✨ I recently got told a story by someone works in marketing at a luxury greenhouse company that made me cringe. They'd just appointed a new PR agency who came to their showroom for a look around (subtext: obviously the idea wasn't *just* to look around). The girls gazed in awe at the lovely greenhouses yet asked not one question the entire time, even when they were invited to do so afterwards on email. The marketing person told me it was at this point she realised they'd hired the wrong agency. They didn't last long after that. I mean... 🤦‍♀️ They could have asked about how sales were going, about new products, interesting or famous customers, or forays into new markets. Who's the longest serving employee, etc etc etc. I guess the lesson is, look out for how many questions the PR asks in the initial call. PR is as much about creating stories as it is going out with them.
