The Biggest UK Cyber Attacks of 2024 (So Far) In 2024, cyber threats continue to escalate, with over 500 potential threats detected every second (BT data). Cyber security is more critical than ever, as highlighted in the King’s Speech earlier this year, which introduced the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill to strengthen the UK’s defences. Here are some of the major cyber attacks making headlines this year: 🔹 Southern Water (February) A data breach impacted 5-10% of customers and employees after illegal access to their IT systems. 🔹 The Billericay School (May) A breach exposed sensitive student, parent, and staff data, forcing the school to temporarily close. 🔹 NHS (June) A ransomware attack on Synnovis disrupted blood testing services and compromised patient data. 🔹 CrowdStrike (July) A faulty update caused global IT outages, affecting millions of Windows devices, with significant service disruptions. 🔹 Transport for London (September) A cyber attack accessed customer and staff data, affecting 5,000 users, though physical transport services remained unaffected.
