We've just launched two new reports showcasing PolicyEngine's unique behavioral response capabilities. 1. In the UK, only PolicyEngine provides public access to capital gains microsimulation analysis--and we model capital gains responses, to boot. With a -0.5 elasticity, behaviour halves our revenue projection from the capital gains tax increase that the Labour Party (UK) is expected to announce in the Autumn Budget next week. https://lnkd.in/esQHEtkD 2. In the US, we model behavioral effects of federal tax reforms--and how they intersect with benefits and state taxes. We recently published a new report in collaboration with Charles Ogunbode and The Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations (CAST) where we brought together insights from two datasets to provide some preliminary findings around #diversity, #ethnicity and engagement with #climatechange. #Resilience "Sustainability practitioners have long relied on images to display relationships in complex adaptive systems on various scales and across different domains. These images facilitate communication, learning, collaboration and evaluation as they contribute to shared understanding of systemic processes. This research addresses the need for images that are widely understood across different fields and sectors for researchers, policy makers, design practitioners and evaluators with varying degrees of familiarity with the complexity sciences. The research identifies, defines and illustrates 16 key features of complex systems and contributes to an evolving visual language of complexity. Ultimately the work supports learning as a basis for informed decision-making at CECAN (Centre for the Evalutation of Complexity Across the Nexus) and other communities engaged with the analysis of complex problems. Smart Data Research UK in collaboration with Sciencewise are initiating a public dialogue on smart data research, gathering diverse perspectives on its potential social and economic benefits.   Thinks Insight & Strategy will be facilitating discussions with around 70 members of the public from across the UK, encouraging them to express their views on ethical principles, privacy and the conditions for public trust.    The results of the dialogue will help Smart Data Research UK understand public perspectives on the use of smart data, including ethical considerations, benefits and risks. As the dust clears from the recent election and King's speech, a truly excellent long-read blog from Ada Lovelace Institute's Imogen Parker and Matt Davies. https://lnkd.in/egMJ5Wg4 It builds on our deep expertise in the regulatory space, the extensive evidence we're collated about how the public sector is using AI on the ground, and our ambitions for a future in which data and AI truly work for people and society. While welcoming this administration's more 'tempered' ambitions in the AI space, it sets out the depth of challenge and sets out a truly ambitious prize: "developing a new consensus vision for the state and public services in the AI era". It will be interesting to see how far the expansion of DSIT leads to joined up thinking on the use of AI in the public sector and the economy as a whole. Indeed, "while the regulation of AI firms in the private sector is often seen as a separate policy agenda from rolling out AI across public services, the two are in fact deeply linked". As Imogen and Matt conclude: "we need to be more precise – more careful – about the role AI can play in Government and public services. Fixing Government knowledge gaps and addressing the steep asymmetries that exist in AI procurement will provide the foundations for the intricate political work needed to forge a new consensus for AI in public services. This work may be less glamorous than the rhetoric of easy wins, revolutionary transformations and off-the-shelf solutions, but – carried out with humility and attentiveness – it could yet yield sustained value for the public."

#COP29 Day 9 highlights | Part 4 Today there have been informal informals on the consideration of the first report of the Board of the Fund for Responding to #LossAndDamage (FRLD) and tonight there will be a contact group. We understand that Parties have made good progress in the informal informals and we expect a positive outcome from tonight’s informal consultation with strong guidance provided to the Board of the Fund. We expect this guidance to emphasise the need to put in place a resource mobilisation strategy that starts to fill the fund with billions and not millions to raise the US$ 400 billion needed each year by developing countries. During the event we heard from Indigenous Peoples on what they expect from the Fund, from two members of the Board and from the Executive Secretary of the Fund: “#ClimateFinance should go directly to communities and Indigenous Peoples, otherwise it is a continuation of the colonisation of Indigenous Peoples lands.”  Daria Egereva, UN Indigenous sociocultural region. Central and Eastern Europe, Russian Federation, Central Asia and Transcaucasia. “Make sure that Indigenous People have space in the Board meetings and proceedings so that we can bring our perspectives, facts and figures.” Tunga Sampang on ensuring meaningful participation in the work of the Fund. “We have seen observers given a voice after a decision has been taken… Indigenous Peoples deserve to have space before you make decisions.” “It's about creating space and creating time. The fund was created at #COP27, and it has been at a very fast pace. But this should not come at the cost of doing it in an inclusive way.”  Board Member, Laurence Ahoussou of Canada. “There is a lot of appetite to talk about a programmatic approach.
