It's great that we're seeing trust being regained in energy suppliers. They have an important role to play in the energy transition, and with their intimate customer touchpoint are well placed to be supporting the move to net zero by engaging customers with excellent experiences, information and support. UK Carbon Regulator is essential for the functioning of a net zero economy - Energy Systems Catapult (ESC) released its Operationalising a Carbon Regulator report, which aims to guide the development of a robust regulatory framework for carbon accounting in the UK. ESC states that a Carbon Regulator would be “crucial” to the standardisation of carbon accounting practices, emphasising that the implementation of a Carbon Regulator is essential for the functioning of a net zero economy by: reducing investment risks; building investor, business, and consumer confidence; and levelling the playing field for innovators. The report outlines that a UK Carbon Regulator could utilise its potential position as a first mover to promote the credibility of UK low carbon industry, while demonstrating the value of nationally coordinated carbon accounting regulations. A leading electric vehicle (EV) charge point management platform has secured £8.7 million of funding to propel its next phase of growth in the UK and Ireland. Lancaster-based Fuuse's investment comes from lead investor YFM Equity Partners, and existing investors Par Equity and an angel syndicate. The money will be focused on scaling its enterprise product offer that delivers a trusted and reliable charging experience for charge point operators, destinations, fleets and workplace charging, as well as providing additional products and services for its network of solutions partners. Clients include SSE plc, ScottishPower, British Airways, Siemens, United Utilities and Arnold Clark. Commenting on the investment, Michael Gibson, Fuuse CEO said: "YFM’s experience of working with innovation-led businesses has proved invaluable. The team immediately understood our vision and recognised our potential. Slow to the party on this one, but great to see last week's launch of Electrify Industry. A new body representing businesses seeking to decarbonise the UK's industrial base through electrification. While CCUS and hydrogen have seen the bulk of support and innovation funding over the past 5 years, electrification remains the main stream solution to decarbonise much of UK industry. Ouch. We REALLY need better community involvement in solar farms. Partial community ownership is the strongest way to get people on board. UK solar trade body Solar Energy UK recently said similar in their best practice guide: https://lnkd.in/ezgBeCeH "In some circumstances, there may be an opportunity for communities to share ownership of a solar farm project. Shared ownership gives local individuals and community groups the chance to make an investment in a commercially owned solar farm. This can open new financial streams for the community and build an active body of stakeholders who can share the financial benefits across the community. Big fat lie(s) of the day in an email received from an energy broker... "Our services come at no cost to you, as we receive our commission directly from suppliers, so you have nothing to lose by exploring your options." For anyone not in the energy industry that might be tempted by this kind of 🐂 💩 I'll break it down; 1) The commission that is received by the broker from the supplier will be applied in addition to the unit rates quoted by the supplier. 2) The services provided by the broker very definitely do come at a cost to you because the supplier applies the commission on top of the unit rates. 3) You very definitely do have something to lose. At today's prices and estimated commissions for a broker of this size I'd say you stand to pay up to 5% more by using this broker. 4) By exploring options be careful not to commit yourself to the broker who then goes and acts on your behalf. And before any of my industry broker colleagues bite back and say that without the broker the customer would be paying a higher price, I only believe that if the broker is big enough for suppliers to justify offering a lower unit rate to reflect the throughput of business from the broker. This broker most definitely isn't.

Interesting article from Naomi Jane Nye at Drax Electric Vehicles ⚡ 'We now have over 55,000 charging points across 31,445 locations in the UK, another significant increase of 46% year-on-year. Building on the report from Public First on business decarbonisation, Energy UK has considered some of the options to grow the CPPA market. Government support in this area could empower more businesses to invest in new low carbon generation, contributing to a cleaner power system and providing them with long-term electricity price certainty. To unlock the CPPA market and improve transparency on green tariffs, reforms to the Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO) and fuel mix disclosure systems are essential.
