“Darren has proven to have that rare combination of high level smarts and great people skills. He is capable of dancing the perfect line, always ‘getting stuff done’ whilst simultaneously treating founders and advisors with respect, humanity and appropriate humour. He consistently shows great business insight in his interactions with founders and also has the ability to keep the complex set of gears in an accelerator program moving effectively. ”

How can you create a pitch deck that secures venture capital funding?
Simplicity is beautiful, but beauty can be complex. When creating a pitch, it's essential to identify the one critical message to convey and ensure that all content supports it. You then need to back this up with substance, I.e. traction. Starting with a script and building the pitch around it is often the best approach. Otherwise, the result may resemble the verbal equivalent of Frankenstein's monster.

How can you create a pitch deck that secures venture capital funding?
It is important to find investors who share your vision and values rather than changing your business to fit their preferences. Otherwise, both you and the investors will end up feeling frustrated. Remember that venture capitalists seek high-growth potential and look for highly motivated founders who are onto something others have yet to spot. So, this won't be for everyone.

I led on programme development and delivery at Digital Catapult alongside delivery partners. This involves developing the programme from application process, recruiting mentors, judges and partners, to planning and organising workshops and monitoring the progress of participating companies.
Augmentor ends with an investor showcase backed by the BVCA and UKBAA. Over 100 investors attend the event, many of the companies who took part in Augmentor secure investment as a result. -

Reporting to Joanne Williams (Marketing Manager) I ensured this project was exposed to FutureEverything's audience and network as much as possible by utilising many aspects of social and digital media. Joanne and I also worked on market research during this project to enable future developments similar to this.
