Integrated care systems are showing big variations in their ability to make #effective use of #patient #data, according to a new report - Understanding Patient Data, in collaboration with its hosts at the NHS Confederation and its ICS Network, has published a new report on the use of data within #ICSs. It found that while some ICSs, or parts of them, have large analytical datasets containing information from a range of sources – including primary, acute, community and mental health NHS providers and local authority social care – other datasets are significantly less advanced. This creates the risk of unwarranted variations in access to data driven models of care for patients. More...

Type 2 diabetes affects over 4 million people a year, and data from Diabetes UK suggests that 1 in 10 people could be living with the condition by 2030. Finding solutions and interventions that help people reduce their risk of developing the condition has never been more urgent. ⚠️ That’s why we were proud to help our client, Meddbase, and the NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), to reach, educate and convert other ICBs to use Meddbase’s technology to increase uptake of referrals to the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme, a clinically effective approach for drastically cutting the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. 📉 The results? "Digital Health and Care Wales publishes organisational strategy for 2024-2030, highlighting need for “a digital and data revolution” “NHS in Wales is at a turning point. The challenges we collectively face are complex and ever-changing; improving health and reducing inequalities against a backdrop of the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and limited funding. But the opportunity to transform health and care is also significant.” The strategy sets out five missions, including ✅ providing a platform for enabling digital transformation ✅ delivering high quality digital products and services ✅ expanding the digital health and care record ✅ driving better values and outcomes through innovation ✅ being a trusted strategic partner and a high quality, inclusive and ambitious organisation. On providing a platform for enabling digital transformation, DHCW’s future model is a single data platform and a single digital health and care record, which it states will become “the foundation for all digital services and applications in Wales”. Open architecture to support innovation and the development of data standards for health and care are also highlighted as key features. Plans to 2030 include moving all data stores and services to the NDR platform to create a single national Clinical Data Repository, extending data standards and components to social care and other partners, and establishing an all-Wales framework for sharing health and social care data. Nice to see the homeland trying to move things forward (I'm half Welsh!) The Patient Information Forum (PIF) and Ipsos UK have published new research into health information access across the UK. Knowledge is Power offers new insights on information access, trusted sources, communication with healthcare professionals and the impact of misinformation. The report reveals the demand for the NHS to signpost trusted information and wide support for the verification of health information. Knowledge is Power makes five recommendations on the right to health information, aligned with the three shifts proposed in the NHS 10-year plan. 💡 The recommendations include implementing PRSB's About Me and Shared Decision Making Standards across the #NHS to support healthcare professionals to have better conversations with people.
