Last week, I chatted with a guy who's scaling his spend up to mid 5-figures/day during BFCM on Meta and has 250+ active ads in the Library right now. His tip for scaling spend? Creative diversity - i.e. maximizing the number of different creatives getting spend 👵🏻 Old strategy: Find a winner and then optimize variations until you max out performance. 👶🏻 New strategy: Test sufficiently diverse creatives to maximize the types of different ads you can get to scale Here are my notes from that conversation: 1️⃣ Set up a creative pipeline: ➠ Use multiple sources (in-house team + agencies + influencers) ➠ Test lots of influencers (10-20) instead of just a few ➠ Start with 3-4 hooks per concept. When something works, make 10 variations 2️⃣ Elements that you should be testing (checklist below) ➠ Mix studio, UGC, and influencer content ➠ Single creator vs UGC mashup ➠ Different formats (static, video, VSL, carousel, catalogue) ➠ Different mechanisms for dramatizing benefits 3️⃣ Monitor metrics that demonstrate creative pipeline health: ➠ Look at overall account performance, not just individual ad performance ➠ Identify ads with high engagement, but below ROAS targets. These are usually best candidates for future winners. ➠ Measure number of new ads that are able to achieve scale ➠ Creative velocity - how fast can you go from insight to new creative What brands do you think do this best? Saltyface increased new customer revenue by 244% while scaling their ad spend 512%. Over a year ago, our team at Kynship began helping Saltyface with one goal in mind — scale without throwing more money at acquisition costs. Here's how we did it: 1. We created a detailed 12-month financial forecast As with most of our forecasts, we wanted to maximize profit while maintaining steady CAC, making sure growth was sustainable. "I was very impressed with the forecasting that Kynship provided. Their spreadsheets probably had 15 pages of our brand’s micro and macroeconomics. Super helpful in helping us understand overall strategy in our ad spend that would lead us to our goals.”  — David Menzel, Co-Founder and CEO 2. We tailored our approach around seasonality Saltyface's brand has seasonal peaks, which requires a deeper understanding of CAC and growth potential during peak seasons. Growth meant covering OPEX and enhancing contribution margin, while monitoring intentional increases in CAC. 3. We leveraged UGC content in Meta The team at Saltyface wasn't signing up for a full influencer strategy. So, we secured the content rights from existing creators who shared their love for the brand: ➝ 375 conversations ➝ 113 unique creators replied ➝ 332 pieces of content We set up ASC structured with cost controls for each SKU, then pushed ad spend based on our forecast and unit economics. 4. We grew the ad account Here are the results from December 2023 to February 2024: ➝ 244.24% new customer revenue ➝ 512.24% scaled ad spend ➝ Expansion to new customer demos (via UGC) Saltyface balanced intentional increases in CAC while prioritizing financial wellness and growth. In the future, we'll continue to push content generation to unlock and optimize more ad spend, in line with contribution margin and growth goals. Here's an example of why follower count should not matter... As a micro-influencer (30,000 followers) in the motherhood space, I recently partnered with a pediatrics company. I posted ✨ONE✨ Instagram story frame for them and generated - 158 clicks 23 signups (~15% conversion rate - from a singular static image) This is not a brag. Inspired by my recent chats with TikTok creators and TikTok shop trends, I wanted to dig further into key statistics in UK social commerce (Source: Retail Economics and TikTok report June 2024.)… 🌟 Social commerce is growing 4x the rate of overall e-commerce, expected to hit 10% of the total online market by 2028 (in the UK, US is closer to 25%). 🛒 56% of UK users have purchased directly through social media - rising to 73% for those under 45. 👉 TikTok leads the charge, with 44% of its users having made a direct purchase, and 1 in 4 purchasing at least once a month 💄 Fashion and beauty dominate TikTok Shop, with beauty at 32% and fashion at 25% of sales. Social commerce makes shopping more participatory and engaging. Our favourite influencers are doing all the pre-vetting and research, making it easy to buy directly from those we trust. An interesting insight from the Morning Brew newsletter about how much more time we spent at home: The average amount of time spent at home increased by 1 hour and 39 minutes per day from 2003 to 2022 (...) Digging into the numbers reveals some interesting sub-trends: 🙏 Zoom prayer: 59% of religious activities took place in the home in 2022, up from 24% in 2003. 🏃‍♂️ The youth are venturing outside less: People between the ages of 15 and 34 have had the greatest increase in time at home. In 2022, they spent about two more hours in their house compared with 2003.

For every startup, profitability is important—especially if you are fully bootstrapped. Building MRR with great traction from zero is one of the most rewarding feelings a founder can experience. We track and analyze our MRR and revenue graphs daily and monthly, witnessing how this “baby” grows bit by bit. I have always dreamed of creating something big. Alhamdulillah, that dream is becoming a reality. Once, a million-dollar revenue was just a dream. Now, Alhamdulillah, multi-million-dollar revenue feels achievable, in sha Allah.
