Want a better ROAS on Performance Max? 🔥 We found one counter-intuitive optimisation after $1M+ in adspend... Try removing search themes completely. We saw shopping spend go up 50% in accounts when we implemented this... Alongside significant improvements in ROI. Here’s why this works: Adding in search themes prompts pMax to spend more on the search network. This means that pMax will then begin to cannibalise your existing cold search campaigns. Google says this themselves: "On Search inventory specifically, search themes in Performance Max campaigns will have the same prioritisation as your phrase match and broad match keywords in Search campaigns." Here's why this is bad: We want the majority of our adspend to be on the shopping network… With brand name fully excluded from the campaign. Meaning we’re spending on the highest quality, cold traffic. For 9/10 brands, shopping ads will produce the highest ROI. We want to leave the search adspend for the search campaigns instead. This is because in regular search campaigns we have more control over: ➡️ Ad copy ➡️ Negative keywords ➡️ Cost per clicks So, how do you check if you’re overspending on search? Here's your action plan: 1. Run Mike Rhode’s Performance Max script. 2. If more than 30% of your spend is on search, remove search themes. 3. If shopping spend doesn’t increase after 1-2 weeks, create a new pMax campaign w/o search themes. 4. Add in more exact match keywords to your cold search campaign. Want to rank higher on Google? You NEED to be building links. But it's the hardest part of SEO! So how can you do this? It all boils down to an exchange of value 👇 You need to give value to that other website you want a link from. Something worthwhile for them to talk about. This can be: —  Market-leading content so they link to you as a source —  If you have a one-of-a-kind product (or a new feature) —  Unique industry data or insights you created —  Access to thought leaders on your team —  Case studies or unique success stories —  Co-hosting a webinar or event —  Being a podcast guest Without this value, you’ll struggle to build good links. And you’ll have to resort to paying a website for a link. Which, can work... But isn't sustainable in the long run. So give other websites something to talk about, something of value. And link building becomes a lot easier!

What areas of SEO are a data driven approach best for? This is one of the questions I answer in my recent guide to Data Driven SEO, designed for busy marketers and CGOs. https://lnkd.in/e86KVaGt Clustering keywords is achieved by comparing the search results between two keywords. Where results are similar and deemed to have the same search intent they can be mapped to the same content page. The data driven part is finding the math to automate this at scale. This is achieved by: • Reducing the search results for a keyword to a string • Using a string similarity algorithm to compare the search results • Grouping the keyword search results according to a threshold (say 60%) similarity for similar search intent The chart below visualizes keywords that share the same search intent. Keywords that share the same search intent are joined by a straight line (called an edge), which informs SEOs on making better decisions.

Got questions on Consent Mode? 🍪 ❗Here's a few notes if you were in the camp of recently implementing a consent banner and saw a big drop in traffic in GA4, and are waiting for modelling to kick in❗ ⚙️ Please make sure you're including modelled data in your GA4 reporting identity. To check this, go to GA4 > Admin > Data Display> Reporting Identity. You will see a Blended or Observed. Only Blended included models data so make sure that's enabled if you want to use it! ➡️ This is also the place to check if Modelled data has kicked in yet. If you click the drop down next to Blended, it will tell you if Modelling is 'inactive' or will display no message if it's in play ⏳ If it is inactive, remember the minimal thresholds you need to meet. Roughly speaking, 1,000 accepting cookies a day and 1,000 rejecting cookies a day, for 7 days within a rolling 28 day period. BUT there's no guarantee that it will kick in after a week, two weeks or four weeks, it's a bit black box. 🚀 I checked around 30 of our client accounts last week and only around 10% had seen modelling kick in. This week that has increased by 10% so patience is the virtue here! If you're struggling or have questions, please give us a shout!

Chrome productivity tip* You people with 6 gazillion open tabs all the time. You know who you are! Switch on Memory Saver in the Performance Settings (Chrome > Settings > Performance). When enabled, it frees up memory (RAM) from inactive tabs, meaning that you have more RAM available for other tasks. It's not enabled by default, which I think it should be.

Hey #ppc friends, Are you reviewing your ad rank score within your Google ads? Struggling to think of ways to increase this for your B2B client? Here are a some key areas to put some optimisation time into: 1 - Conduct keyword research to find high-performing, relevant keywords from your search term report, DSA or keyword planner. Use long-tail keywords to attract more specific traffic, search volume will be lower but the intent will be a lot better. 2 - Create engaging and relevant ad copy that highlights the main keyword. You can use keyword insertion as a quick tip. Also include CTAs and ad copy from the landing page. 3 - If you have access and the ability to create unique landing pages, this is a must. Make sure your landing pages are user-friendly, relevant to the ad. Most importantly provide a clear path to conversion, making the steps simple and easy. 4 - If your daily budget allows, always review and increase your bids. This can help improve your Ad Rank, especially in highly competitive markets. Set up your columns to include top of page, first page to see the range of bids available. 5 - Review your search term report weekly and add negative keywords to your growing list. “I’ve followed all the advice. Still website isn’t ranking” Many of my consultation clients have similar problems. If this is you…follow on. Here's what might be going wrong: 1/. Jack of all trades, master of none Your site covers everything from sports to SEO. Google prefers depth over breadth. Pick a niche and own it. 2/. Ad overload Too many ads = poor user experience. Google's not a fan. Neither are your visitors. 3/. Content quality issues AI-generated content? It shows. Example: Your SEO article still shares 2017 principles. 4/. Backlink red flags Sports headlines in SEO anchor text? Smells like a cheap link-building service. Google's algorithms are smarter than that. 5/. Keyword confusion What's your focus? Oats? SEO? Beauty products? If you can't define it, neither can Google. 6/. Technical SEO neglect 301 redirects to the homepage? That's a no-no. Check Google Search Console for indexing issues. 7/. Thin content 3000 words of fluff ≠ valuable content Quality trumps quantity. Every. Single. Time. The fix? > Narrow your focus. Pick one niche. > Reduce ads. Max 3 per page. > Rewrite content. Make it valuable, not just verbose. > Audit your backlinks. Remove the spammy ones. > Build topic clusters. Support your main keyword with related concepts. >Fix technical issues. £100k p/m on Facebook ads and still underperforming? I just finished auditing an ecom ad account spending £100k p/m on Meta. Here's what I found: ❌ Audience Overlap: Detailed targeting and Advantage Plus audiences were overlapping. ❌ ROAS Optimisation: Campaigns with set ROAS targets are underutilised, with big differences in performance between ROAS and non-ROAS campaigns. ❌ Creative Structure: Multiple campaigns ran ads simultaneously when they could just be consolidated into one campaign. ❌ Testing Strategy: Lack of systematic testing of enhancements and small creative changes. ❌ Engaged Audience Targeting: No clear breakdown of budget allocation for existing and engaged customers in campaigns. ❌ Lack of Upsell and Cross-Sell: Retargeting is focused solely on abandoned carts, with no upsell or cross-sell strategies for existing customers. Here are the solutions I recommended: ✅ Consolidate Audiences: Merge detailed targeting and Advantage Plus audiences to avoid overlap. ✅ Focus on ROAS Campaigns: Allocate more budget to ROAS-targeted campaigns. ✅ Streamline Creatives: Merge similar campaigns into fewer, broader campaigns with multiple creatives. ✅ A/B Testing Enhancements: Use A/B split tests to compare small changes like enhancements, headlines, and discount codes. ✅ Engaged Audience Reporting: Introduce audience segmentation for engaged audiences (e.g., website visitors) to improve reporting and budget allocation between new, engaged, and existing customers. ✅ Retargeting Upsell/Cross-Sell: Create campaigns targeting existing customers for upsell and cross-sell opportunities, increasing customer lifetime value. There's 1 common mistake that keeps most agencies stuck under 30k p/month. After personally helping 92 agencies scale, I see the same issue like clockwork. First - the reason your business would be stuck at any level, is always the same You're focused on the wrong things I mean think about it. All of us work hard and put the time in. People making 10k a month work hard, and so do people making 1 million a month. It's not the time spent It's what you do with that time, what you focus on And what you should be focused on, is the constraint And if you don't know the constraint (AKA what's holding you back from growing faster) Your only job is to find it, then attack it. It's all about prioritization - doing the right thing at the right time. Giving the business what it needs. For the majority of businesses under 30k p/month (and same goes for anyone under 10k p/month) The constraint is sales. Almost everyone I talk to at that level doesn't have a fulfillment problem...they can get their clients results Nor do they have an operations problem, because below 30k - you don't need many processes, systems, or team members. Which only leaves sales as the bottleneck. You need to talk to more people Start more conversations Have more calls Get your offer in front of more people Getting to 30k p/month is simple....There's not a lot of complexity or strategy needed. It's a matter of effort and grind. Than, it becomes more of a strategic game and about leverage, systems, operations afterwards. But up until 30k it's brute force! And most entrepreneurs I talk to at this stage want to grow...but spend little-no time on selling. How do you expect to sell and grow if you barely put time into sales activities? Sales isn't complex, and especially at that level. It's a numbers game. If you put more effort in, you'll have more conversations, and then you'll have more clients Conversations = conversions. So if you want to reach that next level Make sales your priority Do this - carve out a 2-hour block daily to work on sales activities In that time you could ...do outreach ...run automated outreach campaigns ...follow up with old leads ...give value in communities or groups ...post content All of it works But only if you work! If you don't have a tonne of money to put into ads, how can you get a paid acquisition funnel up and running? Do this.... 1. Produce free content specific to your ICP 2. Cut the fluff from your copy. Honestly, people haven't got all day to try and find your point. Here is a completely made up example of a flyffy CTA that would sit at the end of an Ask for Business post. '...If this is something that that interests you and you have some questions just send me a DM. I will be able to answer all of them by sending you a video with all the details. It is an easy process that avoids the awkward sales call where we have to discuss price and payment plans. Once you have watched the video, if you are still interested, we can have a chat.
