Another big tech company shooting themselves in the foot by making blanket policies. 🤯🔫 The same big companies have rules against outside IR35 hiring of contractors. - We won’t tax our flexible workforce properly - We won’t give you properly secure permie jobs either - We won’t offer WFH incentives So what, exactly, big tech… are you… offering? 🤔 anyone with an ounce of talent is going to have plenty of options, permanent or contract, despite the job market being somewhat volatile. A blanket policy is a blunt force tool and uses the same mantra as punishment drills in sport: to catch the odd one or two bad actors, the whole team has to do something gruelling. And this is the best that the ‘leaders’ of these massive corps can come up with? Good news is, if you’re a smaller, more agile and more sensible business who likes working with likeminded talented people.. you’ll no doubt have the right policies in place, will let people WFH, engage with contractors properly, and you’re gonna be just fine 👍

When looking for your next QE role, do you consider how much the company values quality? Luckily, there's some really positive signs that the market is bouncing back. I've noticed candidates are considering a lot of other factors when applying for new roles - as opposed to previous years, where many would talk about a salary increase as the main metric for being interested in a position. Understandably, being in a secure job and working for a business that sees the value in QA (that some companies unfortunately don't), tends to be more important than just a salary increase. ​As an added bonus, if you’re working for a company that has quality at the forefront, you’d hope there's a bit of added security should things get rocky. #qualityengineering #QA

How are people getting on with finding Front End Developer roles? I am speaking to some serious talent in terms of Front End Development, React, Next.js and also Angular but a lot seem to be struggling to secure their next permanent role, following an unfortunate redundancy situation in their last position. I am finding that my clients and hiring managers are wanting to hire either back end or full stack (business logic) focused developers who can do front end. OR Product Design / UX who can do a bit of front end. Just wondering how others are finding their job search as a UI Developer?

Why is a clear, consistent, and easy to read CV so important? I recently had the pleasure of working with a skilled .NET developer from Exeter who was looking to relocate to Bristol. He had been searching for a new opportunity for several months, feeling disheartened by the lack of interest in his CV when applying for roles. On our first call, I immediately noticed his passion for .NET development and the brilliant experience he had acquired over the past 10 years, along with his significant portfolio of work he had completed in his free time. To any freelance Vlocity Developers or Architects looking to make their profile more accessible to find on LinkedIn 😎 I've recently noticed that for a large number of candidates who specialize in Vlocity, it's not always clear the extent to which some of your skills in SFI cover... which means you could be losing out on potential opportunities that are out there! Here are some detailed tips to make your profile more visible to hiring managers and recruiters: 📍 Separate yourself from using traditional titles e.g. "Salesforce Developer" OR "Salesforce Architect". Instead, outline yourself as a "Salesforce Vlocity Developer" or "Salesforce Vlocity Architect" in your job title! (this is a lot more common than you might think!) 📍 Highlight specific Vlocity projects, detailing the technologies used (e.g. Raptors, Cards etc), industries worked in (CommsCloud, Health Cloud) etc. - the more keywords you use the easier it is for us to find you! 📍 If you're a CEO or founder of your own company, and have it outlined on your LinkedIn, great! Try to also include in your experience a strong summary that highlights your experience in Vlocity as well as the service you can provide as a freelancer! By implementing these strategies you can create a compelling Vlocity profile that stands out to recruiters and hiring managers!

📢 Wednesday Rant: Shocking Behaviour Alert! 📢 I just received a message from a Test Manager seeking a new role, asking how much I charge for a meeting! If there are recruiters out there charging for this type of service, it is absolutely shocking behaviour! Needless to say, I have booked a meeting with this person this week, and I will not be charging them! As recruiters, it's part of our job to speak with clients and candidates alike to get to know them and understand what they are looking for in their next role, and what clients are looking for in their next hire (company culture, values, etc.). 📢 Diversity in software engineers teams includes diversity of interests and hobbies!!* 📢 Have you ever seen a job advert that includes interests as a requirement? I remember beekeeping being a requirement for a STEM role I fancied many years back (and frankly would be up for beekeeping if I had the time! 🐝)   I've had client briefs that look for sporty people, musicians, makers. I've dodged one that required an IT Manager be a religious leader for the team...   These requirements pop up as the hiring managers wants the team to be invested - and who's more invested than your user base?   But your audience includes complete novices, they don't require advanced features and may find the learning curve off-putting. If you don't have a "non-user" involved in your product design, are you going to have a blind spot for your novice audience? If everyone is a 'maker' then who is going to suggest an off-the-shelf solution rather than spending a year building an expensive tool in-house? Not to mention the socio-economic, cultural and gender barriers associated with certain interests. Bring me a job that includes music, cooking, climbing and caving - but until then I'll bring the soft skills I develop in those hobbies to any team I join. *ok, this is just my opinion
