How will Hurricane Milton affect the 2025 renewal period? 🌪 🍃 It's still early days but according to a Morningstar DBRS report, Hurricane Milton could result in up to $60billion worth of NatCat losses for the insurance sector, potentially impacting reinsurances prices that largely stabilised over the past 12 months and knocking on all the way through... resulting in some pretty hefty price surges for both households and property owners. An interesting read - with one section very pertinent to #hpe #pre1997pensions From the document below …….We recommend that DWP and TPR explore ways to ensure that scheme members’ reasonable expectations for benefit enhancement are met, particularly where there has been a history of discretionary increases. Discretionary increases are particularly important for some scheme members with rights built up before 1997, where their scheme rules do not provide a right to indexation. In some cases, scheme members told us they had not had an increase for some years, resulting in a substantial erosion of their living standards. We recommend that TPR undertake research to understand the extent of the problem.

Switching to an electric car presents many opportunities for individuals not only to reduce CO2 emissions and pollution, but also to save on the cost of motoring. So who likes Swiftie? No, not the beloved Jonathan Swift of Insurance Post but global pop icon Taylor Swift. Well I am not entirely sure the Bank of England do. Well perhaps the revenue which the tour generated to the UK economy (boosted too by England's run in the Euros), but not the effect on the headline rate of inflation. In part it's said that the increased hotel rates in the major cities where the superstar played may have had an impact. Of course as property insurers we know that this may not have helped Alternative Accommodation costs. At Zurich UK we know that sourcing hotel rooms for emergency accommodation can sometimes be challenging, even at the best of times. With the Summer holidays now upon us, the scarcity of rooms is even more stark. So what about inflation overall? The question is, now that Taylor Swift has left our shores will the UK continue to "shake it off"? #inflation #AA #Swiftie

If Lloyd's is a bellwether, this could be another light at the end of the tunnel. A Combined Loss Ratio of 83.7% is their best in 17 years. But their CEO rushes to point out that this 'supercycle' is expected to continue with no significant price changes. That's probably a long-term recovery effect, but it might also be a signal to the industry, at least in part. 😉 The overall conclusion that this is no time to for complacency is well taken though, and an overall posture of discipline and a focus on profitability make perfect sense. Note also that they state that even with social inflation and increasing uncertainty, there's still room for profitability, and even in harsh hurricane years like 2017, they still maintained growth. 📈 According to the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB), P&C insurance premium hikes have dropped from over 12% at their peak to 7.7% in Q1 this year, and further down to 5.2% this last quarter. The conclusion?
