Good morning everyone - call out to my network! We broke the news just over 4 weeks ago that 70% of Opus meters would be sold to EDF, resulting in redundancies from Opus Energy. Im sure you’ll appreciate asking for help from my network before now would have been pre-emptive. Now is the right time to do this. We have received offers of support from the wider industry, outside of the industry and so many who have been part of the Opus family in the past. This has helped us in creating two recruitment fairs but we still have a few spaces left. Lot of talk around bill validation last week at the ELCC and interesting to see suppliers acknowledging billing issues so think its fair to say make sure you have all your bills checked! Energy Brokers and Consultants are looking at offering bill validation as a service to their customers, however there is always the issue of how do you price up bill validation 😱. If you decide to manage it internally then how many heads are needed, what infrastructure is required and what's the ongoing cost to maintain and update 🥴. I am seeing a shift - where its becoming more appealing to look at an outsourced solution where all the bill validations and query management is done for you and you can see all the validated data in dashboards and reports. All fully white labelled! Our bureau team are a true sign of this shift and continue to manage close to 30,000 invoices a month now 🥳. Is it time to maybe take a look... 👀

We've just had an excellent question from Gas Certification Company Limited following the LCL Awards inclusivity update. The gas industry has a main legislative document, the Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations published by the Health and Safety Executive, and throughout this document it references “he”. Should this be changed to be more inclusive?

Actual gas meter data is fundamental when calculating an 'accurate' heat tariff, yet it's often overlooked. It can support better operational decisions, such as identifying inefficiencies in the network which can lead to savings and a more transparent tariff structure. Integrating accurate data at every level helps ensure both the heat provider and consumers have a clear view of actual costs and usage, promoting trust. Real-time, accurate readings not only help set appropriate tariffs but also support effective financial management, reducing the risk of under recovery that can arise from poor heat tariff management. My top advice for property managers in this industry is to consistently take a manual meter reading at the end of every month, without exception!

Certas Energy announces industry first HVO fleet balancing calculator 🔌 Certas Energy has created the industry’s first HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) fleet balancing calculator, allowing fleet operators to calculate the cost of mixing HVO with traditional diesel to aid decarbonisation. HVO is a lower carbon alternative diesel which offers immediate greenhouse gas emissions savings of up to 90% compared to diesel across the product life cycle. It also burns cleaner, emitting fewer particulates compared to conventional diesel. In addition, storage is simpler because HVO has a shelf life of up to 10 years, and is biodegradable and non-toxic. However, HVO is more expensive per litre than conventional diesel, making it more practical for some operators to blend HVO with diesel, or only use HVO in some situations. For example, an operator could commit to one tank of HVO a month, or use HVO in congested areas to reduce air pollution. Certas Energy’s automated HVO fleet balancing calculator is a free online tool that will provide the average fuel cost when including HVO as part of the fuel mix, helping operators make decisions about how and when to drop in the renewable alternative diesel... SP Energy Networks, part of ScottishPower, has confirmed 19 preferred contractor partners to its initial five-year programme to rewire the electricity grid. The agreement includes up to £3 billion of new overhead lines and £2.4 billion of new and upgraded substations, including design, engineering, construction, and electrical works.  “With electricity demand forecast to double, Britain’s grid needs a major upgrade to transport power around the country,” said SP Energy Networks. Here is a list of some of the construction and engineering contractors appointed to the scheme: Balfour Beatty  Adman Group    Amco Giffen  Keltbray  Kirby Group    Morgan Sindall ScottishPower promised to create 1,000 new jobs and deliver tens of thousands more in the supply chain.   In the coming weeks, SP Energy Networks will submit its business plan for the period 2026 to 2031 to the energy regulator, Ofgem.   The strategic partnership will run for an initial five years, with the option to extend up to 10. “We’re delivering the biggest overhaul of the electricity grid ever seen to unlock growth and free up network capacity for new homes, businesses and clean energy projects,” said Nicola Connelly, CEO of SP Energy Networks. “These strategic partnerships will give suppliers the confidence to invest in themselves, growing their workforce, opening new offices across the country and creating even greater opportunities for the UK. “This is great news for the UK and Scottish supply chains, with every pound spent directly benefiting central southern Scotland and its infrastructure for decades to come.”  [Construction Wave] #infrastructure #energy #electricity #scottishpower

🌟 A Day in My Life: Juggling Motherhood and the Energy Market 🌟 Being a single mum and a premier energy consultant isn’t easy, but it’s a challenge I embrace every day. Balancing my work with raising my daughter, Jessie is a huge part of my life, and somehow, I’ve learned to make it all work—even on the most hectic days. Tuesday morning starts early: I’m up with Jessie, getting her ready for school. After the drop-off, it’s straight to the Full Power Utilities Ltd office, where I kick off my day with a strong cup of coffee and a quick check of my emails. The energy market waits for no one, and with prices fluctuating as they have been lately, every minute counts. First things first: I dive into the market updates. Whether it’s the latest on gas prices or shifts towards renewable energy, I’m constantly in touch with suppliers to get the best rates for my clients. This industry is fast-paced, and I’m always working to stay ahead of the curve. Mid-morning: My day is filled with client calls—working on renewals and welcoming new clients onboard. Thanks to the strong relationships I’ve built with every supplier in the market, I can consistently secure the lowest prices available. It’s one of the reasons why my clients have been with me for so many years. They know I’m not just here to get them a good deal; I’m here to make their lives easier, and the energy side of the business more efficient. Afternoons are just as busy: Even after I pick Jessie up from school, I continue working. I’m back at my desk in the evening after making her dinner, catching up on anything urgent. My clients know they can count on me for fast responses—no matter the time of day. I often wonder if I’m part superwoman 😎 At the end of the day, it comes down to mindset, passion for my work, and, of course, my love for Jessie. I wouldn’t have it any other way! This morning was a little different for a Tuesday, I was in Mayfair for a 7am Networking meeting with BNI UK & Ireland which was fantastic. Networking is a big part of my job and I love it! London is such a beautiful city, I loved the location for today, such a great way to start my day! 😊 I’ve learned how to juggle a lot, and while it’s not always easy, it’s incredibly rewarding. For me, it’s about being there for my clients when they need me and being the mum Jessie needs too.
