Last year, Vitality paid £117mn in protection insurance claims, with 94.6% of claims paid across Life Insurance, Income Protection (IP), and Serious Illness Cover (SIC). The most common reason to claim on Vitality’s products was cancer – this applies to both sexes. For SIC & IP, the majority of claimants were in their 30s and 40s. Vitality believes this highlights the importance of having comprehensive protection in place at a younger age. Notably, one in thirteen SIC claims were paid on plans that had previously claimed, while almost 15% of all SIC claims were for conditions not typically covered by an enhanced Critical Illness (CI) plan. Time for change - Could working together be the key to deliver better outcomes for companies and customers? As recently reported by The Association of British Insurers (ABI), the UK motor insurance market continues to face substantial challenges, impacting both companies and their customers: - 2023 saw the total motor insurance claims cost rise by +18% to £9.9 billion (£8.4bn 2022), which equates to £1.13 million paid out in claims each hour. This is the highest annual figure since the ABI began collecting data in 2013. The total number of claims also increased +10% to 2.3 million. > Cost of vehicle repair saw a further successive uplift totalling £6.1 billion due to an increase of +16% in materials and +15% for labour. > Temporary vehicle replacement costs rose +35% to £597 million (£444mn 2022). > Personal injury costs were down -8% totalling £2.4 billion (£2.6bn 2022). > Vehicle theft claims cost increased +23% to £669 million (£543mn 2022). > Adjusting the average total claims cost per claim to account for inflation since 2014, this rose +23% to £4,300 (£3,500 2022), whereas the same adjustment saw the average premium uplift 8% to £543 compared to £505. Perhaps, if the Industry all pulled together, Insurers might see a consistent and sustainable reduction in costs to improve loss ratio performance, accident repairers/bodyshops could earn a fair and sustainable labour rate, and customers would experience better outcomes? This is just a simple view and obviously more complex as lots of moving parts, but food for thought!

Mmmmm - A smidgen of truth but so many factors not considered:- *FCA price walking rules *Solvency 2 rules that need slacking off *For Private Hire as a example Uber having a prescribed panel in London rather than drivers having true choice *Police not dealing with crime properly (just claim off your insurance) *Re-insurers talking tough but not acting tough *Re-insurers not helping the innovation of new carriers / MGA's *All combined with claims inflation no doubt Watch and I would love to hear your thoughts? https://lnkd.in/esFmYuMr BIBA, the ABI, the industry heavy weights all need to be making more noise.
