Recent polling found that 41% of the UK public think the country isn’t as generous as it once was - or was never especially generous to begin with. This perception aligns with the UK’s drop to 22nd place in the 2024 #WorldGivingIndex, its joint lowest ranking in the last decade. International Passenger Survey 2023 data has been released today for the UK overall as well as the UK’s nations and regions. Both reports are available to view on our website. https://lnkd.in/eUmbb72E The UK welcomed 38.0m inbound visits in 2023. Visits were below pre-pandemic levels (2019) by 7% but were up 21% vs 2022. Overall, 292.9m nights were spent in the UK in 2023, up 1% vs 2019 and up 11% vs 2022. Inbound visitors spent a record £31.1bn during 2023, up 9% vs 2019 and up 17% vs 2022 (without taking inflation into account). Looking at markets, USA, France and Germany ranked top for visits in 2023, in line with 2019 patterns. Australia, Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and the USA saw record visits in 2023. The USA, Germany and France ranked top for spend in 2023. From the UK Nations and Regions report, we can see visits to England outside London in total were 10% below 2019. The most visited England regions (excluding London) in 2023 were the South East (4.3m visits), the North West (3.4m visits) and the South West (2.4m visits). Of the 38.0m inbound visits to the UK in 2023, London received a little over half (53%). This is in line with the proportions of visits received prior to COVID-19 and in 2022. Scotland posted the strongest recovery and was the only nation/region to surpass 2019 levels at a record 4.0m visits in 2023, up 15% on 2019, helped by strong growth in visits from North America. Although visits to Wales were 13% below 2019 levels, it did show the strongest recovery vs 2022 (up 30% with 892,000 visits).
