The UK’s new Secretary of State for the Environment has stated a roadmap to move Britain to a zero waste economy is a key goal. With SAP HANA VMs often oversized to the tune of TBs memory and 100s vCPUs, I’d suggest SAP workloads could be a decent starting point to eradicate digital waste. Interesting article from E3 Magazine. My thinking is slightly different. It’s time to stop artificially propping up an unpopular database. Stick to the core business process competency which made SAP the leader in the industry. Mercedes does not make its own tyres, Airbus does not make its own engines, Apple does not make its own iPhone touchscreen. Unshackle the potential of S/4 sans HANA, and make it easier for customers to integrate S/4 onto their IT landscapes which are standardized on AnyDB.

Spotted today in The Register, another example of a poorly run migration, costing millions of additional tax pounds. Surrey County Council were replacing a 15 year old in-house SAP system with Unit4, and gave themselves unrealistic timescales from the start. The urgency was no doubt increased because SAP was coming to the end of support and a major update of hardware and software will have been required anyway. A key learning from this? Don't wait until your software is near end of support before upgrading or replacing it. Plan ahead, give yourselves time and budget for regular upgrades to prevent the risk from ever occurring. SAP Business AI is developing into a really useful tool for SAP customers. At a recent SAP event was great to get some insight into 2025 developments moving beyond what we know SAP Joule for today. 80% of the main business processes will be enabled in SAP Joule within the next months. Coupled with knowing SAP handles 77% of global business transactions, the business opportunity to leverage value looks huge for customers. At SAP Sapphire 24 a lot of focus upon the use of 🤖 AI to help migrate and implement SAP S/4HANA With the advent of SAP Joule Consultant we will see a shift in the delivery dynamic, the much heralded resource armagedon may be avoided by the use of Joule, this may reduce the more junior functional and technical roles but there will still be a need for senior consultants that can lead and contextulise the outcomes to be delivered. In the SAP delivery space we will see an autonomous delivery model centred around SAP Signavio, SAP LeanIX and SAP Activate all linked by SAP Joule, so as the team becomes smaller and more specialist the need for delivery discipline and command and control will become even more important.
