Last week, a significant shift in the UK’s tax landscape became official: Capital Gains Tax (CGT) has been raised to 18% at the basic rate and 24% at the higher rate. Pension funds enjoy a very material tax exemption privilege. I wonder if some element of that privilege should be linked to commitment to the sector, increased over time to stop a wall of money, where for example a vehicle like Adam proposes and/or direct investment would qualify. Pension funds free not to participate, might have a size threshold, but if they do not they pay some tax. Link that to whatever regulatory tweaks needed to ensure funds are not penalized for investing a portion in growth - rationally 4% has to be a perverse allocation, someone has got the rules wrong. It feels like it is not in their investors' interests, aside from the societal point of the need to support growth, the no.1 claimed objective of the incoming government.

A win for Moneybox and the equity crowdfunding market 🎉 Last week, Moneybox announced closing a combined investment of c.£70M and a £550 million valuation - an 84% increase since their Series D in May 2022. 🔄 Moneybox’s latest secondary share sale will allow their strong shareholder community of 35,000 to sell up to 10% of their holdings 📈 (many of whom joined Moneybox's journey through equity crowdfunding platforms like Crowdcube). Investors will be eligible to sell 10% of their shareholding (rounded up to the nearest share) at a share price of £10.08. This represents a substantial increase from the Series D valuation of £5.58 and the Series C valuation of £3.50. This liquidity event marks a significant win for early CSF investors. How would £300,000 in funding help you as an early stage founder? I've recently been working with an early stage founder who set up on his own and now has a team of 8 (all done within 4 months). He come to a point where he needed to raise some initial funding. But this is time consuming and juggling raising funds and running your business is a lot. So I offered help. Lots of updates on Aiter, it's moving at pace. 1. We've chatted with over 10 investors already. Interesting experience, we've got our first proposals, but we've decided not to rush here whilst we work on version 2.0. 2. July was our most successful month in terms of sales. We're still far from operational profitability, but the trend is encouraging. Let's hope it continues. 3. A Brazilian vlogger made a video about us, so now much of our traffic comes from LATAM. Quite interesting, as I've never worked with this market before. 4. A few people have bought our most expensive packages. That's pleasant, considering that we are still working on adding the key features to these plans. 5. We're working on version 2.0, which will be much more user-friendly and functional than the current one. Yesterday, I had a long brief with a designer friend - it feels promising. 6. I wrote my first promo email using Claude instead of ChatGPT. I liked it better. Most likely, I'll be switching over. 7. We've reduced the gap to first place on the largest AI directory to just 20 votes in the "Content Generation" category. That's about it.
