Reactive talent acquisition versus strategic talent acquisition;. Reactive TA approach; - Start with tactics (recruitment agencies, job postings, etc.) - Write generic job descriptions - Then try to link this description to potential candidates - Without clear value propositions and authentic positioning - Interviews are 'off the cuff' - candidate experience is in the lap of the gods (and so is your brand) Strategic TA; Start from the foundations, not the roof. Every problem/failure is a symptom of a problem at the level below. Recruiting not effective? → What's the process? → Who's the ideal candidate? → Where are you finding them? → What is the value proposition? → Is it differentiated and authentic? → Do you know the TAM and are you tracking metrics? Work on TA from the bottom up: → Employer Brand: How are we different? → Candidate Persona: Who are we looking to hire? → What are the candidates' motivators? → Value prop: Which ones do we go to market with and test? From there comes the rest: → Job descriptions → Messaging & pitch → Recruitment tools & platforms → And finally, the tactics: → job boards, social media, 3rd parties etc Results from these tactics feed back into Employer Branding and Recruitment strategies. It's easy to put the blame on the market, your team — but 99% of the time there's an underlying problem. What do you think?

The application per role is rising making it more competitive than ever. For those who are looking 🔎 One thing I do want to say is that this highlights the importance of networking and using LinkedIn to the best of your ability. What you see on Linkedin or SEEK isn't a true representation of the available opportunities. The increasing volume of applications is placing a toll on small-medium businesses that don't have a mature screening process and will look heavily to referrals or networks rather than traditional job postings. Connect with ideal companies, maybe even a couple in your local area, connect with your next potential manager and promote yourself! Lots of hiring managers across many technical industries feel agencies have little commitment, ability or skill to fill their roles. Their frustration is palpable. Lots of agencies feel hiring managers have unreasonable expectations of what they want to hire. They therefore switch off and move on to other things. It all makes for a bit of a stand off. A stand off which suits nobody. Communication and teamwork can eradicate all of this. Yet it’s so overlooked. And I can’t begin to think of how much energy and time all parties waste by working so ineffienctly. If agencies offer the insight, data and optics to a client who is willing to listen, challenge and collaborate with those agencies on finding a solution, I would go as far as saying that recruitment can be enjoyable, extremely effective and very efficient. Team work is key. Who knew?!!!

George has been on a 4 year journey as a non-technical founder to build the app from scratch, and has faced many challenges along the way.
