WARNING **RADICAL HONESTY POST** 😅 So today marks the second day in my new journey of reducing my screentime. But you work at a computer, I hear you say! Yeah but that's the thing. I have been looking at my job as 'separate' to any screen time consumed in the morning or evening and in the endeavor of radical honesty, this became a pretty big issue for me! Those of you who know me will know I'm raw-dogging life without ADHD meds (a personal choice) and there are pros and cons to this. One of the cons is that even though I am an absolute Pro with a capital P at masking, sometimes my impulses take over and I form really bad and unhealthy habits that are hard to break. For what it's worth, when I'm with my kids, it's rare I look at my phone unless it rings but that means that when I'm not I have a million notifications and end up getting sucked in. I also love ❤️TV and film❤️ so many evenings are spent devouring HBO's latest offering or maybe a Prime Home Premier if I'm feeling spicy. I started feeling really low recently and when I thought about it, the amount of hours that my eyes were focused on a screen were really totting up😅The thing is, when you have ADHD you kind of live your life with racing thoughts every waking moment of the day and I realised that my recreational screen use was me trying to self-medicate my exceptionally busy brain, which for obvious reasons isn't great. I mean, what therapist ever recommended more screentime as a means to treat ADHD symptoms? 🤣 Ironically, I've always been really strict on my kids using devices (they only have the telly or laptop for schoolwork) and my 11 year old only has a burner phone as I don't want his social development to be stunted by a screen and internet use, which surprisingly, he's cool with. So I'm owning my shit and making a decision to reduce my out of work hours screentime down to an hour a day and TV is going to become a treat after the gym or at weekends once my kids are in bed. I want to rediscover my creativity away from a screen and I'm hoping this will only enhance the passion and ideas I already bring to my job, which I love! Is anyone else out there just feeling that we are all spending way too much time looking at screens or is it just me? 😅😂 #partialdigitaldetox

So we've been spending time this weekend really trying to nail pricing for our SaaS product prototype. The system isn't pretty looking at the moment, but the functionality is very useful to businesses and digital agencies and the feedback from the meetings I've had so far are very positive in how it can be used in their own business. I've been meeting with many agencies lately demoing the system and it's been an interesting learning journey to hear how they want to use it in their business and this is our first SaaS product (2 more in the pipeline), so it's a new area for us. Now what was interesting is that I thought I would use this as an opportunity to test out AI to see what pricing it would come up with. First though I created an excel spreadheet and figured out prices the traditional way, manually, based on a few things, storage & processing being the primary drivers along with of course a profit margin that allows the business to reinvest and hire more people and improve the service. I then prompted AI with a fairly long and detailed prompt to give it as much information but not the figures I came up with, so just the costs of the business, closest competitor pricing for what we're doing (not a like for like but adjacent to what we're doing), who it's for and why along with markets we expect to target and in what order etc... What's crazy is that the prices the AI came up with are so close to my original figures, even the various levels for a business or a digital agency, about 5% on average of a difference (lower). It actually did some things better than I did as well. So it's very interesting as a solid sense check that I must be in the right ball park with my figures and approach. So if you haven't used AI yet, you really should look into it and don't just put in 7 word prompts, describe in as much detail what you're looking for. In this I added at the end "Is there any other information you need me to provide to get a better more accurate answer?" and it came back and asked me 11 questions. So think of it more as a conversation if that helps.

At the moment I'm auditing 10+ Klaviyo accounts per week One thing I'm seeing is a decline in new customer acquisition New website traffic + Pop Up form submissions in most Klaviyo accounts have been on a steady decline throughout this year This decline usually dates back 3-4 months before they realise their is an issue and they reach out for an audit It's important to stay on top of your marketing that is geared towards new website visitors as opposed to retargeting The performance of this is a leading indicator of your sales in a few months time

Old SEO colleagues / connections... Can anyone recommend a really amazing technical/BAU link acquisition agency? Sounds a little old school, I know, but being in the theatre-industry means not being short for amazing content-led ideas and creatives for when we get cracking. What we ARE in short-supply of is for a creative ground-up "someone" to support with what we don't have time for at the moment - everything from link reconfigs where production info has changed and there is a genuine benefit for the customer to replacing it, to creative approaches to securing placements where we should already be being seen. May be seen as more grey-hat these days but still fundamentally critical to great SEO. Again - we aren't looking for someone who can run PR-led creative content link building - just someone/an agency that works closely on some of the older building blocks that many contemporary creative agencies skip over in favour of the fun! Bonus points if you/the agency were around in 2012 time and know the importance of why it's still key to ensure our technical bed of links and placements are maintained and grown, wider than the PR-led one offs and reactive/proactive PR approach (which I fully am and standby also, but will be covered in a new content and amplification strategy).

I get it... I'm calling out of the blue to find out if what you need is something I have. I face rejection every day and it's not a problem. But here is the problem. Some advice to businesses that employ gatekeepers. 1. Chill out with the no-names policy - we have something called LinkedIn now, all your names are there. 2. Treat others how you like to be treated - no need to be rude 3. Gate keepers can destroy your reputation - it takes just one ambiguous customer to get rejected and you've lost out on business. We are in 2024 not 1999.

Nothing has convinced me more of the threat of confirmation bias than the reaction to the recent Google API Document leak (and yes, I recognise there may have been some ironic predetermination inspiring this post). Over ​​14,000 attributes at 2596 modules has led many to believe they now have the skeleton key to one of the world’s most closely guarded algorithms. And to be perfectly honest, there clearly are valuable nuggets of information that SEO’s certainly should be incorporating into their tests. But as Gael Breton of Authority Hacker tweeted (Xclaimed?) Everyone sees what they want to see. There is so much data coming out of this leak with little to no weighting behind any of it that we can essentially come to any conclusion that we want. Links matter? Sure.  Quality content matters? Sure. Google is unfair and untrustworthy… Did anyone really doubt this one? Ultimately, if you want to comb through this leak for new variables to test against, that’s fantastic. If you're going into looking to validate your own SEO/ site building philosophy… Do you really need  a several thousand page leak to do that? #seo #seoadvice #googleleak

I love it when brands do sexy PPC. Great example here of using: 1️⃣ Audience data 2️⃣ Location data 3️⃣ Copywriting skills To make their ad relevant and effective. Reminding me (a customer) that I don’t need to use Splitwise Inc. when I have Monzo Bank! The use of site links, that are relevant and enticing is a fantastic touch. Great example of how even a fairly dry subject, can be a chance to upsell your customer. The only way to stand out on the SERP is an effective ad - don’t forget that!

Moving the needle every day! Love checking in on our client websites on Google Search Console / GA4 to see this steady, upwards trend of both Impressions and Clicks (all organic). The client website pictured operates an extremely niche service yet continues to grow (inbound enquiries are on the rise too). We don't promise you one-hit-wonders, but what we do promise you is constant attention & frequent improvements, which will generally lead to steady increase in traffic. SEO is a long game.

Google's March Core Update finished rolling out on the 19th April! Despite search (SERP) volatility still being high to very high for US and and normal to high for the UK Apaz Google's aim was to reduce low value content (inc. AI spam content) by -40% but early reports are showing more like -45%, along with targeting sites that have poor user experience or content created for search engines Search Engine Land wrote about it here - https://lnkd.in/eRKY6kMg Anyway, the basic gist of the update is depicted below: 📣 Users don't want copywriters who write a fluffy articles to try and rank for loads of terms. 📣 Even historic sites that provide information aren't safe in search as some have seen traffic declines of -95% 📣 Users want content they can trust, and ultimately big brands have the budget to buy experience and expertise So now the preferred media from users is UGC, forums and discussion boards as these get to the point and aren't angled to try sell you something or have a hidden agenda. Sites like Reddit have gain trust with users due to the helpful answers or content being bumped by other users liking it allowing the best content to raise to the top based on community voting. So shout out to BigBalls69 and n00bSlayer420 who are now the most relevant result in Google without even trying to rank for it 💪 Anyone else noticed more Reddit results in search since the update? #seo #googleupdate #reddit

Lots of companies buying leads are far better off working with agencies They get better results So how do you know the best lead gen agencies to work with? Transparency is the Numero Uno thing But that's quite a broad term that doesn't really help you make a decision This is really what you're looking for: 1. Not hiding sources of data 2. Deep knowledge of your vertical 3. Ensuring they're getting performance results on a regular basis 4. Using tech to verify, qualify, and deliver data 5. Managing feedback loops 6. Adjusting processes, suppliers and volumes based on performance 7. Understanding how the performance of leads impacts the CPA and cost efficiencies 8. Full understanding of how leads are generated and how that feeds into a sales, or marketing function to create a seamless customer journey 9. Caring about your prospects experience as much as you do --- It's easy to make money as a middleman and not do much, but working with an agency should constantly improve performance and make the lead buying process easier The value needs to be demonstrable

If you have looked at Google Search Console this morning and it looks like your website has fallen off a cliff, then don't panic, Google has admitted there is a bug with it. Probably best to check back in the morning as it tends to update overnight UK time. Normally, these kind of issues are just a reporting issue and the data will be corrected. This won't have any impact on your Google ranking. #googlesearchconsole #seo #googlerankings
