“We have been doing linear television for over 50 years. It has been optimised to the highest degree... We've been doing SVOD for 18 months… are there ways to improve it, optimise it? [Yes]…” Wise words from the brilliant Kristiaan Kroon, who goes on to comment on Adgile’s analysis showing that advertisers are still catching up with the unique demands of online advertising, which explains why SVOD has not yet matched the effectiveness of traditional TV. “There are so many ways that SVOD advertising will improve in the coming years. So I don't disagree … we're a big fan of the Adgile product. Is there a gap? Yes. Is that surprising? Absolutely not. And Sam gives some excellent #Curation advise too👇 How should publishers respond to curation? Curation is here to stay, whether publishers embrace it or not. As curation grows, publishers should focus on quality and adjust their strategies. Here are some tips: - Prioritize quality content and audiences. - Shift efforts to direct sales and demand higher prices from brands by selling inventory directly. - Optimize remnant inventory for curation deals; if inventory can’t sell directly, being part of a curated package is better than being left in the open market. For smaller publishers lacking direct sales teams or those that get overlooked when buyers build their inclusion lists, curation could be an opportunity. - Focus on quality benchmarks and request dialogue with SSPs to access greater demand.  - To be sure you’re getting a return on these curation deals, publishers should ask their SSPs for: - Performance reporting by curation package (with inventory breakdowns) The ability to set minimum prices for inventory Transparency around fees

I’ve been talking about the growing demand for SaaS pricing models in ad tech for a while now. With Sovrn expanding its SaaS pricing model and others offering similar solutions, we’re seeing a significant shift in how publishers approach ad monetization. While a full ad management solution may still be necessary for some publishers, these SaaS models—offering flat fees instead of revenue-sharing—are empowering publishers who have the resources to keep more of their earnings. Self-serve optimization tools, like dynamic pricing controls and header bidding adjustments, are giving publishers even more control over their monetization strategies and efficiency. As publishers become increasingly tech-savvy, I believe we’ll see more of a move toward SaaS-based models, signalling an industry-wide shift from traditional revenue-sharing to solutions that prioritize publisher profitability and operational control.
