Last week, Richard Ollington from Radiant Energy Group presented the following survey. ⤵ On all countries studies, there is always a gap of 20pts pts between male and female regarding acceptance of the nuclear. Reasons are multiple: Women are more risk adverse and nuclear is seen as risky, Women likes to understand topics before endorsing them and nuclear has always been difficult to explain, Women embraced less scientific studies, Nuclear sector remain as a very masculine industry and there is a very low feeling of connection between Women and Nuclear, … This came quite as an eye-opener to me. I have been involved for long in communicating on the need of Women in the Industrial world, and this for a lot of reasons: main one being diversity increase variety of points of view leading eventually to a better and more innovative approach to a solution. Nuclear being one of the most technological industry, it leads mechanically to one of the smallest ratio of Women on technical positions and on the contrary, one of the strongest need of having this diversity of point of views. But this survey shows that Women are also needed for something everybody can agree on: if we are able as a Nuclear sector to bring more Women in, it will mechanically lead to a higher acceptance of the nuclear by women, leading to a mechanical increase of the overall public acceptance. In 2020 energy hubs was just an idea. Fast forward 4 years and we have a demonstrable understanding on how energy hubs could play a pivotal role in the important brown to green energy transition. Without ambition, scale and collaboration we will build an inefficient future energy system. Bringing the energy hubproject and hydrogen backbone projects together it’s easy to realise the scale of ambition and more importantly, the scale of the opportunity. Partner's News The Energy Hubs – Fill the Backbone report by Hydrogen Scotland member Net Zero Technology Centre highlights the emerging opportunity to export green hydrogen from Scotland into the expanding hydrogen market in Europe. Economic modelling indicates that a 10 GW scale Energy Hub in Scotland producing green hydrogen from floating offshore wind could produce hydrogen for £3.90/kg. Also, if you are looking at reviewing any of your related internal procedures, we can help - there seems to be a lot of interest in improving processes lately and we a fair bit of it!

Some excellent suggestions in the report, and one being timeless in highlighting skills shortages, which has also been apparent for these past twenty years. Let’s hope it is now taken seriously. “A national engineering and technology workforce strategy to address skills deficits in the short and long term, including the need for an additional 200,000 engineers and technicians working in the energy sector by 2030”.

I’ve been having a number of conversations on this important topic with both colleagues at Baker Hughes and several of our customers. During these conversations, one area stands out. Our customers are not just seeking compliance - they are driven by a deeper commitment to environmental stewardship. This is because flare reduction isn't just about reducing emissions, it's about embracing a mindset of responsible resource utilization and minimizing our collective carbon footprint. “Support British Industry. Support our Offshore Energy Sector. Support us” Today, I had the privilege of presenting evidence at the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee on Methane on behalf of Offshore Energies UK. When I was asked what more can policy makers do to support the rapid reduction in UK methane emissions and our journey to net zero, for me the answer is simple: Support our homegrown energy sector. Support our highly skilled people. Support our world class supply chain. Support our sectors value in the UK economy. Support our efforts to meet our emission reduction targets. We recognise that there is more to do. We must deliver. But our sector is in action delivering on clear commitments to reduce methane and wider green house gas emissions. With our homegrown offshore energy sector in action to deliver on our climate goals, there are no prizes for simply importing our energy from overseas which would have a detrimental impact to everyone. The select committee were clearly well informed, challenging, curious and wanting to deliver recommendations that will make a difference. I was joined by Rebecca Tremain who is Clean Air Task Force’s Director of UK Government Affairs. Her thoughtful and challenging evidence left me with food for thought and focus areas where our sector can do more. This committee is undertaking important work, and it is important that that our sector provide evidence of our commitment to a net zero future and are held to account to delivering on those commitments.
