Beny Meyer, Business Lead Semi-Liquid Private Markets at LGT Capital Partners, will speak on a panel on the democratization of private equity on 4 September 2024. According to Beny, open-ended solutions offer more flexibility and address some of the key challenges of investing in these asset classes. They have the potential to remove some of the friction investors face in accessing private markets. 🚨PGIM’s Private Markets Investor Survey 2024: Key Insights from $10 Trillion in AuM 🚨 PGIM surveyed 250 institutional investors across Europe (86%) and the Middle East (14%), collectively representing $10 trillion in AuM. The findings offer a clear roadmap of LP priorities, strategies, and challenges for the coming 24 months. 🫰 Current Alternative Portfolio Snapshot Real Estate Equity leads (18%), followed by Private Debt (11%), Private Equity (10%), and Real Estate Debt (10%). Future Strategies (Next 24 Months) 🔹 Increased Allocations: Private Credit (+44%) Real Estate Debt (+42%) Sustainable Equity (+40%) 🔹 Risk Appetite: 75% of LPs are prepared to take on more risk for new allocations. 🔹 Geographic Focus: LPs view Asia-Pacific and Europe as top allocation destinations. 🔹 Key Preferences: Strategies with higher returns, lower correlation risks, and income generation are prioritized. 🔹 Emerging Focus: LPs are now allocating to agriculture and food production strategies. Asset Class-Specific Trends: 🏢Real Estate: Debt: Value-add strategies followed by Core Plus dominate. #LongStoryShort: What’s behind Clearlake Capital Group’s acquisition of a London-based credit specialist? The private equity heavyweight acquired MV Credit from Natixis Partners earlier this week, strengthening its foothold in the $800 billion direct lending market. The Financial Times reports the deal is worth "several" hundred million dollars. MV Credit, which specialises in European credit investments and CLOs, will expand Clearlake’s credit business by around $5 billion. “Often for us the credit business has been the canary in the coal mine . . . which has a direct effect on our private equity business,” José E. Feliciano, a co-founder of Clearlake, told the Financial Times. This acquisition is part of a wider trend in asset management, where PE firms are bulking up in areas like infrastructure and credit to create more stable, fee-generating revenue. "What is Lazard’s business model? Lazard is doing business as a financial advisor, this is M&A and restructuring, and as an asset manager. We have more than 250 billion assets under management around the globe. We are very global. And I think the key success factors of us are, on the one hand, risk-adjusted performance. Secondly, that we try to be near to clients. We are a solution provider. We are a relationship manager. We are not a simple sales rep. We try to deliver trusted advice. And the third success factor is to be “glocal”. What does it mean? Capital markets are global, so the research and the analysis are always global. But the local requirements, the local mentalities, are totally different. So, the requirements from the authority, like the AFSA, or in Germany from the BaFin, or in the U.S. the SEC, are sometimes really different. And also in the European Union, you have a lot of differentiations. We try to find always local solutions. What does it mean? We are never doing B2C business. We are doing B2B business. So local staff is always important. And after a long conversation with AFSA, we discussed we need a local flavour.
