Most of the enquiries I get are from companies that need help figuring out the right questions to ask Before finding the right answers The most common challenge is growing sales The question they will ask is ‘how do we get more leads?’ When actually, this could the wrong question to ask. It’s surprising how many have a bigger conversion problem And generating more leads would not solve the problem. Number of leads is only would piece of the puzzle The other levers to pull are: Conversion rate Deal size Sales cycle So rather than asking ‘how do we get more leads?’ Ask yourself ‘how do we win more of what we generate, faster?’

Business owners & Founders- Fractional CFO and SME Issue- A Series to answer everyday business issues This is the first Friday answering SME question on business management. I will try to cover as many topics as I have been involved with whilst being a CFO and a business owner. And if you have any question please feel free to ask and I will try to answer it by next Friday. Cashflow Management One of the most common challenges SMEs face is cash flow shortfalls. Cashflow hiccups can cripple growth and create unnecessary stress for business owners. I recently worked with a small manufacturing business that faced a recurring cash flow gap each quarter. They had profitable sales but struggled to align incoming revenue with outgoing payments. After reviewing their finances, I identified a few areas where quick changes could make a significant impact. Solution: Leveraging Cash Flow Forecasting, Credit Terms and Supplier Consolidation ✔️ Cashflow Forecast 1     I introduced a cash flow forecast aligned with their business cycle, enabling us to predict cash inflows and outflows over the next 12 weeks and identify potential shortfalls clearly. 2     By using a rolling forecast, they gained flexibility to adjust based on real-time data, which is a key service a fractional CFO provides. ✔️ Reducing credit terms  1     Many of their clients were on 60-day terms, which strained cash flow. By renegotiating with key clients to 30- or 45-day terms, we shortened the cash conversion cycle significantly. 2      When longer terms couldn’t be adjusted, we introduced an early payment incentive, which a few clients opted for, giving the business faster access to cash. ✔️ Supplier consolidation I also helped them to negotiate with their suppliers to do two things 1.      Reduce numbers of suppliers & 2.      negotiated discounts based on 12 months guaranteed volume with smaller number of suppliers With these three adjustments – proactive cash flow management and renegotiated terms – they were able to reduce cash flow gaps, meet expenses comfortably, and even set aside a small reserve for unexpected needs.    Why Partner with a Fractional CFO? If marketing then you have the correct KPIs but for branding it should by CPM & engagement rate. Mohsin Baig your question about identifying target audience for an SME. Ans- what is the problem your SME is trying to solve? Because this problem should be a pain point for intended/targeted market.

Dave (name changed) hated cold calling…but gritted his teeth and did it every day to grow his business. Nowadays…he saunters up to the post box with half a dozen hand written envelopes. (Takes less than an hour a day) This produces enough enquiries for him to grow the business how he intended. Dave stopped all cold calling and does his prospecting this way now. I can’t guarantee this will work for your business. But you’ll know within the first month. There’s a 90 second explainer video in my first comment. #prospecting #marketing #sales

Half of all businesses started in the UK die a death in three years. Only 30% of businesses started are still alive after five years Only 20% of the businesses that last actually get sold ie 20% of the 30% at best… Meaning.. only 6% of all businesses started in the UK ever get sold and the other 94% fail or close, leaving the owner with nothing... (stats vary but I’ve used the optimistic ones here!) Businesses are a lot like humans.
