The UK EV charging market has entered a phase of rapid growth. In many parts of the UK, the UK Government is (or local Councils are) expanding the EV charging infrastructure which is essential to meet the demand of increasing EVs and EV consumers. EV drivers can save up to £600 a year by switching to a dedicated EV tariff, according to our latest quarterly index. The Index highlights that there are now nine smart EV-specific tariffs, which offer an average rate of just 7.7p/kWh. In practical terms, this means an EV driver could travel 33 miles a day for five days a week at a cost of just £2.90 – a weekly commute for less than the average price of a cup of coffee. The Q3 Index - featured here in The Express - also found that EV drivers can save up to £1,300 a year by making the switch from an internal combustion engine vehicle to an EV. UK Solar Energy Update: November 2024 The UK's solar capacity now stands at a remarkable 17 GW, equivalent to 5.7 million 3kWp solar installations—an 18,000% jump since 2010! This surge began with the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme, which incentivised installations, though growth slowed after FiT cuts in 2016. However, rising energy bills and smart export tariffs have reignited interest, pushing installations higher since 2021. Today, 1.4 million UK homes have solar panels, a 4,862% increase since 2010. With momentum building, 1.5 million homes are expected to be solar-equipped by early 2025. Public demand remains strong, with 66% of UK homeowners considering solar, and over half open to local solar farms. The South East leads in installations, but the South West has the highest household adoption rate at 7.1%. The UK is on an inspiring path toward greener energy and it has never been a better time to join an exciting and thriving industry!
