Today I completed my Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England refresher course, and it was a reminder of the importance of being there for each other 🧠 💚 Being in the HR/People profession, keeping my skills fresh is essential, but more importantly, it’s a commitment to creating a workplace where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported. We all have moments where we struggle, and knowing how to spot those signs - and how to have meaningful, compassionate conversations - can make all the difference. In addition, workplaces should be spaces where people can bring their whole selves, including their struggles, without fear of judgement - knowing they will have full support. Let’s continue building a workplace culture where people feel safe to share, where checking in is part of our routine, and where supporting each other is the norm, not the exception. All employees in Ireland must get a written statement of their terms of employment, including their pay and hours of work. You can usually find this in your contract of employment. There are 2 main ways your contract can change: Due to a change in the law, or By agreement between you and your employer Your employer cannot change your contract without your agreement. You and your employer must comply with the law. For example, in 2023, the law extended an employee’s legal entitlement to sick leave The law on changing your contract is set out in Section 5 of the Terms of Employment (Information) Acts 1994–2014. The rules were updated by the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) Regulations 2022.

The CIPD Festival of Work is off with a bang, with some noticeable accessibility and inclusion efforts. 1. When you arrive if you have forgotten/lost your ticket or bar code you can have it printed for you. 2. Accessibility green landyards available at request upon entering. 3. Disabled seating at the front of every talking space. 4. Ear plugs available. 5. Well-being quiet area with comfortable seating and headfones available with music or calming audio. 6. All information, layout & travel guidance provided in advance. 7. Email to let visitors know they would arrive to loud music and guidance on how to avoid if required. 8. Each topic has a designated speaking area that remains the same all day. 9. Screens with text at each speaking area for anybody who requires it. Could it be a Teams message or a calendar reminder? - Use the To and CC boxes properly: @ the ‘To’ individuals on the elements directly linked to them to action/respond; clearly label who is CC and why they need to be aware - In the subject clearly label whether it’s: For action, For review, For awareness - If there is a specific deadline, put it in the subject (if close), higher up in the email or in bold - If you don’t need a response, flag this in the email - Keep it short and concise - Use bullet points to break text down - Use Plain English (free PE checker hemingwayapp.com) - Avoid discussion conflict over email - pick up the phone for a conversation! - Be respectful of annual leave - if you can delay send or keep a list instead, it can make the returning to work process much less painful! #emailetiquette #internalcomms #internalcommunications

I’ll do it later…. I’ll do it tomorrow ….. How many times do you think or say this? All of us can find ourselves putting things off, reorganising our to do list and simply not get everything done. If this resonates with you below are a few simple tips that may help in moving forward. 🤔 Firstly recognise that you are procrastinating and work out why? 🤔Does the task ahead bore you, frustrate you or are you feeling overwhelmed, uninspired? 🤔Does your scheduling and accountability need addressing? Acknowledging on why you are procrastinating is the first step to creating a strategy for success! 🕰️ Behonest and realistic about your priorities and your time! Reframe your internal dialogue from ‘I have to, I need to” to ‘I choose to” 🦶 Take the first step. ACT! 🧘 Focus on one thing at a time - this might sound simple but its important not to multitask. 📞 Eliminate all distractions. - Yes this includes re-writing your to do list and scrolling on your phone. Set realistic goals and deadlines. Hold yourself accountable Allow yourself time to reflect on how you are feeling and why. Stop feeling guilty. 💕 Reward yourself for achieving your goals again and again!
