How is buying a car like a B2B buying journey? Pardon the pun 😂 Yesterday I was quiet on here as I spent my afternoon test driving new cars. It got me thinking - there are similarities to the way people by B2B enterprise software today: 🚗 Like the modern B2B buyer I did my own research online and had a clear idea of the make/model I wanted. All the information I need is online/in my network so I don’t need to speak to a sales person for more information like I might have done 10 years ago. 🚗 I engaged with sales when I was ready. I need a new car now - there is no amount of cold calling/emailing that would make me change my mind before then. 🚗 I also knew where I wanted to buy it from, because of a previous positive experience (I had bought from there before), their non pushy marketing/sales approach (they haven’t harassed me to buy a new car in the 5 years since my original purchase) and a recommendation through my network - in this case my in laws who bought from the same place recently. 🚗 For the sales process itself, it was non pushy. They listened to our requirements and presented various options of finance/vehicles to suit our requirements. It’s simple - People will buy when they are ready. Trying to force prospects into a sales cycle they’re not ready for is a waste of everyone’s time. Instead focus on creating outstanding content that keeps you top of mind. Over time, if done right, they will come to you when they need to solve their problem. #marketing #b2bmarketing

I believe in paying for software. I use lots of it to build & support my habit tracker app “Did You Do it Today?“, and pay for a fair chunk of it. I’m happy to do so, though, as the stuff I pay for really helps me, and it feels good to support the folks & companies building & maintaining it. Software I pay for: • WordPress → Domain name & web hosting, blogging • Bubble → Full stack, no-code development platform (this software is incredible & is the only reason a non-coder like me can build an app like DYDit) • Stripe → Payments processing • Sinch ClickSend → Daily Check-in emailer • SendGrid → Daily Check-in SMS sender • Titan → Customer support emailer • Google Workspace → Spreadsheets, forms, & other emailing • SnagIt → Screen captures & visual designs Software that’s free: • Trello → Idea & task management • Notejoy → Writing • Figma → Visual designs • Microsoft Copilot → AI image generation • Meta AI → AI image generation • Bubble third-party plugins → Visual elements (eg. charts) • LinkedIn → Marketing • Meta Facebook → Marketing • Instagram → Marketing • Twitter → Marketing • Threads → Marketing Holy shit, that’s a lotta software! We use way more in our daily lives than you’d think, and it’s especially amazing how much you use when you’re trying to build a digital business. I’m pretty content with my paid vs. free balance, especially since I could be, in some cases, using a hacked-together free solution for something I pay for. Also, with the way AI is advancing, I’ll be likely be using & paying for even more in the near future. So, like I said, it feels good to pay for software that really helps you. "December's Always Slow For Selling" 🐢 This is something I'm hearing a lot right now from both sales directors and sales execs! Just by thinking like this, they're setting themselves up for a quiet month. Actually, they're really missing out on a fantastic time for selling! Here are 3 reasons December has the potential to be a bumper month in tech sales: 1) Many customers want their new infrastructure installed ready for January. The Christmas break is the ideal time to do this, while their offices are closed. This is a prime time to hit the education and legal sectors, for example. 2) Gatekeepers are away on hols so your telemarketing team will have more luck speaking with decision-makers! Maybe don't call at 3pm on Christmas Eve though! 3) Many of your competitors are thinking "December's going to be quiet" and taking their eye off the ball. This is your chance to maximise opportunities without as much competition. Let's keep the momentum going right through the festive run-up and smash those targets! Meet our workshop hosts for the upcoming Leaders Lab event which is happening in Manchester on Thursday 14th November. As I mentioned in my post earlier in the week, this event is a follow on from a leadership roundtable we ran earlier in the year. The topic we covered was 'Where do we Draw the line at Potential'. The takeaways from the session were phenomenal, but something was very clear there is A LOT more to be discussed and we needed to diversify the audience / contributors to allow everyone to have a voice, really look under the hood and come up with some proper solutions. This being said we've decided to ask a few of the leaders in that first session to come back and run a half day of micro-workshops so we can delve deeper in to the topic. The aim being we can share ideas, learn from one another and leave the room with some new perspectives, outlooks and tons of actionable takeaways to implement in the workplace.
