Our latest TradeTech FX report has uncovered a major shift in the buy-side adoption of FX futures.   The days of FX futures being niche instruments are over. They're now mainstream tools in portfolio management, thanks to the challenges faced by OTC FX markets.   Working alongside Eurex, we carried out an exclusive survey of 120 buy-side leaders from around the globe. As always, context matters and as we shared with Lydia Tomkiw at Pensions & Investments, 2022 was a big year for Managed Futures.   Our Managed Futures Index finished that year up 14.7%. A recent report from Coalition Greenwich (a division of CRISIL) noted that electronic trading levels have hovered at around 60-70% of market share for the year to date, with 2023’s full-year levels averaging at 64%. Kevin McPartland, head of research, market structure and technology says that; “Even in US equity markets, which are hyper-electronic, institutional investors executed 44% of their volume via a sales trader in 2023. Today, City Hive's Stewardship Council of fund gatekeepers representing $2trn in AUM have issued a letter to data providers and platforms calling for the ACT Signatory status to be added to firm- and fund-level information as a vital data point and screening tool for fund selectors to assess culture and behaviours.
