Here’s a pro tip for anyone adding a Stripe DNS code string to their website 👀 Double-check for extra characters at the end of the string! Sometimes hidden characters like spaces or full-stops get added. To the naked eye, you’d never know something was off, but it can throw off the ENTIRE integration, causing errors and headaches for everyone. A quick once-over can save you HOURS of troubleshooting. “Every problem in your business is a systems problem” We had David Jenyns from SYSTEMology powered by systemHUB come and talk to our Boardroom clients about systems and processes and his step-by-step framework for creating a simple, scalable business. Big takeaway for me was that most business owners know systems and processes are important - but they’re never urgent. They’re always an afterthought or a “I’ll do that when I have time” kinda thing. The reality is that we never make time for things that we don’t deem a priority. And then when things go wrong or don’t go as planned - we get frustrated that we have to spend all this extra time (that we don’t have) fixing things up. When in reality - a simple system or a process - would stop this problem from happening again in the future and could have avoided the whole thing happening in the first place. So when things go wrong (and they will), instead of getting angry or annoyed, look for the opportunity to make your business better. Ask yourself “What can I put in place to stop this happening again in the future”. Empower yourself and your team to learn from mistakes and get better as you grow. Epic session - thanks again David. Automation 101: Tackling the basic client headaches that we see all the time. Today’s topic is Web Enquiries Are you leaving money on the table? So many website enquiry forms simply send an email to an already full company inbox (or worse, to an individual's inbox) for action. Enquiries often get lost in the email tsunami and a response is delayed, or there is no response at all. In either option potential sales are likely to be missed. So what to do. The simple answer is to get your process and systems organised. In essence, the web enquiry needs to be captured in an organised manner, where it can be viewed, tracked and action taken. This can be as simple as having all enquiries automatically logged in a spreadsheet. Or better still, automatically log them all in a CRM or task management system. (these systems do not have to be complicated or expensive - there are 100s of options out there) If you can make 1 extra sale that would otherwise be missed, it would likely pay for the cost of implementing the solution! This kind of integration solution is normally straightforward to build, and at Big Sky Vision we do lots of them - it is always where we start when looking at sales and marketing processes. They rely on strict controls and micromanagement. But Theory Y managers trust their employees. Empowering them to take ownership and responsibility. Which do you think provides a better outcome? What to put in your CV. Tip 3 - Keep the hobbies! But make sure they are meaningful hobbies. What do I mean? Like experimenting with Raspberry Pi? get that in the CV. Sing in a local choir? Get that in the CV. Competitive jive dancing? Absolutely get that in? Why? Hiring managers want to understand the real you. What really makes you tick. FUTURE PROOFING YOUR BUSINESS I’m currently seeing businesses who have built a successful position in the market place, falling for the ‘green grass syndrome’! To their peril and amazement they find their clients now being attacked by competitors based solely on PRICE. In their lust for market share and growth, it appears that they have been guilty of not ‘staying close to their clients or customers’; one of the most critical attributes of all sustainable and successful businesses and companies. So if you’re experiencing threats to your business now from your competitors, check your strategy and I’m sure you’ll find that your business development managers and sales representatives have been too focused on gaining new clients at the expense of staying close to your existing customers. Research says it ‘costs’ 5 to 6 times more to get new customers and clients than it does to keep existing ones. Building close client relationships is an investment not a cost and senior management must see this and take action to future proof the business. Otherwise they will suffer the ‘green grass syndrome’ and lose customers and clients to their competitors.
