Amazon Web Services (AWS) is to invest £8 billion in the UK. The investment is estimated to support around 14,000 jobs per year at local businesses. These positions all form part of the AWS data centre supply chain, ranging from construction, facility maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and other jobs within the broader local economy. The £8 billion investment in digital and AI infrastructure over the next five years will support the growing needs of our customers and partners, and support the transformation of the UK's digital economy. The time has come for me to bid a fond farewell to Kin + Carta. What an incredible 11-year journey it has been, starting as an IT Engineer for a 60-seat company on a farm in rural Somerset, England, and culminating in my role as IT Director of a 1500-seat multinational organization. It’s been an exhilarating ride filled with growth, transformation, mergers and acquisitions, divestments, and sometimes all four at once! This experience has truly broadened my horizons. I want to extend my gratitude to a few special individuals who played pivotal roles in my journey: Todd Gifford Thank you for kickstarting this journey 11 years ago. So we recently had a company reach out to us, due to their IT not responding to them, infact it took them 3 weeks to respond in one instance and then that was only after repeated phone calls and emails. What would you do if you had an IT Emergency and you couldn't reach your IT Team? I personally had a friend I know from business networking groups reach out to us after a potential data breach (It wasn't) but he called us for help as his current IT Provider wasn't responding and he knew that this was a time sensitive thing. It took one of our Engineers 4 minutes to look at the situation and realise that it wasn't a data breach, however what if this had been? I should also add they are moving over to us now as well, so they will be getting improved response times :) #itsupport #responsetime #databreach #cybersecurity #missioncritical

HMRC: Hyperscale PaaS for Hyperscale Performance. HMRC offers an exemplar blueprint for a Platform Architecture, and how it can enable rapid digital service innovation at hyperscale levels. HMRC's Multi-channel Digital Tax Platform (MDTP) employs Continuous Delivery at scale, operating a cloud platform for over 130 user-facing applications powered by over 1000 microservices. The platform delivered financial support to more than 12 million employed and self-employed workers during the pandemic, processing 67,000 job claims within half an hour and handling 440,000 applications for government grants on the first day of its operation. It's disappointing to see the news that the CMA has chosen to renew its contract with AWS – despite currently investigating the impact that hyperscaler anti-competitive practices are having on UK cloud.   In all honesty, it’s a huge blow to all those operating in UK cloud. This could have been a way to promote competition in the UK market and support the challenger and homegrown providers, rather than signing the biggest deal yet with the hyperscaler provider.   I shared my thoughts on the situation with Christine Horton, who explored the impact of agreements, like the UK’s One Government Value Agreement 2.0 (OGVA), have had on public sector IT spending.   There’s an election on the horizon and whoever’s in No.10 this time next year needs to be considering this with some urgency.    Take a look at Christine’s article in Channel Futures here: https://lnkd.in/ek3H4743
