Have you ever ended up caring about something that you thought didn't matter to you? Hear from our founder.
I didn’t care about craft or heritage. So why did I start a brand built around it? When I first started Ziimara, my number one goal was simple: sustainability through circular economy principles. That’s it. Artisan craft or heritage wasn’t even on my radar. But then I met Crafting Kenya, and everything changed. Their story was so inspiring! The founder started a project to document and photograph craft techniques from different regions in Kenya. This project evolved into a network that connects artisans with brands worldwide, celebrating heritage and artistry while creating economic opportunities. I was blown away. Through them, I discovered that artisan craft was actually a missing piece of my mission: It’s the opposite of overproduction and fast fashion. It’s rooted in clever, resourceful ways of creating. It’s soulful, slow, and personal—everything I want Ziimara to stand for. Now, I care deeply about heritage and artisan craft - so much that it has become a new pillar for Ziimara. It's funny how one conversation can create such a shift. What's even more surprising is how this passion has radiated outwards, to my family who have begun to appreciate craft and what goes into making a product more. Within our communities, our voices have so much potential to inspire small but meaningful change. Have you ever ended up caring about something that you thought didn't matter to you?

What's one of the biggest challenges using waste textile to build a sustainable bag brand? Standardising a collection. Waste textile varies in colour, texture, size... so it is really difficult to design something cohesive. At Ziimara, we turn this challenge into an opportunity. By working with skilled artisans, we embrace small-batch production while unifying our pieces into a collection with custom-made artisanal elements. Instead of fighting what each piece wants to be - Ziimara embraces the handmade nature, that each piece will be subtly unique, not completely uniform. ✨ What challenges do you face in building a more sustainable world - whether in your personal life or your brand? Let's share and inspire each other!

You are invited to our online event, Radiance - a celebration of our collective inner light and connection ✨ Prepare to be awed with behind the scenes footage of our artisans in action and be taken on a journey of ancient artistry. Discover what makes Ziimara a symbol of radiance and connection. 💫 And for 48 hours only, our entire collection will be sold at special prices, starting from £150. To share our light and brighten not only your day but someone else's day too, for every bag sold during the event, we will donate £5 to FareShare. FareShare is a UK charity that redistributes surplus food to those in need, whether at an elderly people's lunch club, a school breakfast club or a homeless shelter. Every £1 enable the redistribution for the equivalent of 5 meals. Join us here: https://lnkd.in/dYEQNyNn

We are so proud of this achievement and our journey so far thanks to your support! Looking forward to transforming even more waste into wonder ✨ BUT we do look forward to the day where finding deadstock becomes more difficult... because that would mean that the whole industry is working in a more circular, responsible manner. For now, though, we will celebrate our small wins. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dTZTkAVY
