A great article highlighting an interesting topic
This article has been written to highlight how the use of idioms can cause a person to lose a conversation thread and focus on the idiom used, rather than the message being delivered. This could happen during a safety brief, training session, interview or another situation where focus on the topic should be a priority. Would you agree with Professor Andre Spicer on his challenge on the effectiveness of Workplace Wellbeing Interventions as follows: "The good news for leaders and employees is that we know what does work; instead of investing in ineffective initiatives, leaders should focus on taking away stressors. This means getting rid of unnecessarily complicated systems, poorly trained managers, and – in some cases – ineffective wellness interventions."
Work ‘wellness’ programmes don't make employees happier - but I know what does | André Spicer

Great advice from Varsha
Nutritionist | Ayurveda Consultant | Specialising in Preventive Health | Certified in Nutrigenomics | Diabetes Health & Wellness Coach | Health Educator
As you begin to think about the new year, let’s ditch the diets - The key to your health lies within your digestion. Bloating, acid reflux, constipation, diarrhoea, IBS, or any other digestive imbalance will prevent your body from metabolising your food and absorbing nutrients. One of my specialties as a nutritionist is helping people with any digestive issues to help heal and achieve balanced health. Sometimes clients do have underlying food allergies or intolerances, but most of the time they do not. Not everyone needs to cut out gluten, dairy, soy, etc. In addition, majority of my clients have some sort of digestive issue in addition to other health challenges, such as difficulty losing weight, autoimmune conditions, or low energy. Having a balanced digestion is so important for your short-term and long-term health. A healthy digestion can also help keep your energy levels up and keep your immune system strong. I am one of a handful of people in the world who have qualified training in both Nutrition and Ayurveda which puts me in the unique position to help my clients approach their diet and lifestyle in a holistic way that doesn’t involve any harsh diets, strict plans, or heavy supplement usage. I recognise that each individual is different and what works for one may not work for another. So each of the plans that I create for my clients are based on their individual concerns and goals. In the new year, many people will make New Years resolutions related to health. This is great, but health is not something you just focus on in the new year. It should be something you focus on all year and being aware of your digestion is the best place to start. If you have any digestive issues, get in touch and see how a nutrition consultation with me can help you to feel your best. #newyearnewyou #healthyeating #holistichealth #healtheducation #nutritionexpert #preventivehealth

Congratulations to Angela Steel CEO of SuperWellness Ltd on her MSc on Workplace Wellbeing. Angela has been such a great pioneer of helping firms make real and genuine changes to the well-being of their employees.
CEO at SuperWellness | We simplify your path to effective workplace wellbeing, by providing all the support you need, in one place.
Just over a week ago, I received the result of my MSc Dissertation – it was a long-awaited moment filled with trepidation, made worse by the fact that, as my trembling hand went to log into my student account to find out the outcome, my mobile network went down, and I had to wait a solid 45 minutes for the code to get in… but that’s by the by. I was absolutely thrilled to have received a Distinction! My research project focused on workplace wellbeing and specifically the role of those who implement it and drive the agenda within their organisation. As the people I’ve worked with day in, day out, for many years, I’ve been aware for a long time of just how incredibly difficult but also rewarding their job can be. I’m hoping to share more about my findings in future posts (and to continue exploring further as well) but in a nutshell the key themes included: 🛣‘What it takes to blaze a new trail’: what makes wellbeing implementers agents of change, in particular their resourcefulness and influencing skills. The importance of relationships, collaboration and networks. 🚧‘Forces of inertia come in different guises’: three key barriers to progress, namely widespread ingrained behaviours such as bullying and stigmatisation of stress and mental health issues, a lack of awareness and understanding of wellbeing at all levels, and “wellbeing washing” (but with certain nuances). 🏆‘Breaking new ground – a career “make or break”’: it takes grit to navigate the lack of structure and clarity typically experienced in a workplace wellbeing career path, but many positives to be gained for those who succeed. ⛅‘A wellbeing calling is a double-edged sword’: such a purpose-driven role can be hugely uplifting but also comes at a heavy price in terms of workload and emotional burden. Doing this research was challenging, painstaking, stimulating and hugely rewarding. I’m so grateful to those amazing people who agreed to be interviewed and shared their experiences in a very authentic way. Another highlight of this experience has been working with my brilliant supervisor gail kinman, whose guidance, support and encouragement motivated me to give this my best. The research project is of course the end-point of the longer journey of completing my MSc in Organisational Psychology at Birkbeck, University of London. I can’t even begin to count the learnings and ways that this course has expanded my frame of reference, but above all, I’m filled with awe and gratitude for the extremely hard work and dedication of the Birkbeck OP team during my two years there – Kevin Teoh, Almuth McDowall, Mark Stringer MSc FRSA AFHEA CBP Chartered MCIPD, Joe Gray, Jessica Dark ND, and many more inspiring individuals who made this time such a special experience. #organisationalpsychology #researchproject #workplacewellbeing
