Check out this 15-minute talk where Gina Panayiotou LLB, LLM, CBA, MBA shares her insights on: "The role of ESG in maritime and influencing change”. Background: Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks have been a hot topic in recent years. The focus, though, has largely been on non-maritime sectors. In this talk, Gina shares the basics on the role of ESG in the maritime industry, strategy setting, and practical tips on how to optimize ESG strategies to influence change. Biography: Gina Panayiotou LLB, LLM, CBA, MBA is the Founder & CEO of the ESG consultancy Oceans Arena and Chair of the World ESG Forum, a cross-sectoral think tank created with an aim to achieve a global level-playing field for ESG. Having studied maritime law, with an MBA focused on change management and ethical leadership, Gina has worked with organisations such as the Hartmann Shipowning Group and MSC Cruises, acted as a communications consultant to the United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO), and served as Stakeholder Engagement Advisor to the Greek Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for the Ocean at the US State Department-led Our Ocean Conference. Furthermore, Gina sits on the Board of WISTA UK as Secretary, Co-Chairs the WISTA International Environmental Committee, has been featured on the Top 100 Women in Shipping list for 5 consecutive years, and hosts her own podcast. It is fantastic to see the International Maritime Organization hosting the first all-female technical expert panel at the IMO during the 4th innovation Forum. The 2024 edition of the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Review of Maritime Transport was recently published, offering a comprehensive analysis of global maritime trade. Notably, WISTA International  (Women's International Shipping and Trading Association) contributed to this report on page 114, focusing on the status of women in the shipping industry. This contribution highlights the ongoing efforts to address gender disparities in the sector and improve opportunities for women in maritime roles. As we celebrate our milestone 50 Year Anniversary, WISTA International would like to thank all of the incredible women, both past and present, who have been a part of our journey to become the global force we are today. Together, we have carved out a space for women in the maritime, trade, and logistics sectors that are not only flourishing but evolving right before our eyes.  We are proud to have 62 National WISTA Associations spanning all continents, and our membership has grown to over 5,200 professionals.
