We are now 18. The world's a different place from when we were conceived. We’ve iPhones, big data, social networks and much more. Cryptocurrencies and web 3.0 have all happened, but our solution to a real problem has not changed. It has become much more critical.
We set out to secure the world's data. We designed this logically, connecting all the world's computers and using encryption to share the world's devices. We did this so that we would not have to rely on the large corporations and data-centres.
That has changed. The big change that is happening, very quickly, is that data is just boring and can mean anything, or nothing. Knowledge is what we actually need to protect. Not the paper, stone tablets or parchment, but the words and wisdom that are communicated by them.
Computing has changed, we were always a probabilistic inspired network in a deterministic world. It was hard to get folk to understand and many times we failed to do so. However, as Bitcoin showed cryptocurrencies as we envisaged were valid, neural networks and AI has shown probabilistic computing is not only possible, but it's significantly able to achieve more complex things, like computers actually speaking to us and understanding us.
So we have (or we will have) knowledge based networks, probabilistically encoded (natural) systems backed with highly concurrent cryptocurrencies.
In all of this AI has appeared to the masses as a thing to fear, worship or wonder about. Wherever your perspective, what is clear, is that it is real. What is also clear is that it must not be controlled by centralised forces of any kind, be it governments or corporations.
Our world has changed, but our mission has strengthened.
Stealing our data and serving lousy adverts was an issue, the hassles of intrusion in our private life was a pain. It was not life threatening for most and in fact the world decided to pay the price of privacy for convenience. Now though, with controlled AI, it's no longer shopping that is the worry, it's potentially civilisation wide control, and we won't even know it's happening. It's no longer a trivial thing we can sell for convenience, this is a threat to a species like none seen before.
That's only AI, just computer programs, we also have robots coming and again, central control is far too dangerous, it cannot happen. They should not be and cannot be under the control of a government, corporation or a cohort of powers.
The world has changed, our mission just got bigger, the opportunities are bigger, there is an overwhelming need for secure, unfettered access to the world we are about to enter.. We must allow the people to seize the opportunity these advances provide. We must give everyone the power to engage with these superpowers, and to do so freely and without fear of being left behind.
What we have been building and what it will do to protect and empower every individual on the planet, is something we’re looking forward to sharing with you very soon.
