Compassionate care for people in Wigan and Leigh living with life-limiting illnesses

About us

Wigan & Leigh Hospice provides specialist palliative care for people with incurable illnesses as well as those people important to our patients. We’re a registered charity funded mainly through the donations and support of local people. We provide expert palliative care and support - not just from within our hospice building, but also out in the community to people living in their own homes through our community nursing teams. Our aim is to make a real difference to people with life-limiting illnesses and to support their families and carers. It's very much a myth that a hospice is only for those who are close to death: we often provide skilled care, help and support over an extended period of time to people living with a life-limiting illness.

Updates

  • We are thrilled to be announced as Wigan Warriors Rugby League Club Charity of the Year for the 2025 season! This is a huge honour, as like Wigan Warriors, Wigan & Leigh Hospice is rooted in the Wigan community, and it is the communities support that continues to keep our services going. Every year, hundreds of families like Liam’s are supported by the hospice and we know what a difference our services make. We are really looking forward to working alongside Wigan Warriors in this partnership and can’t wait to see you all in the new third kit this season. We hope you are as excited as we are! 💜

  • We want to say a huge thank you to everybody at Wincanton for their incredible efforts to fundraise for us this year. The team have been busy holding events such as bike rides, an evening at the races, raffles, pool competitions and much more. Thanks to their efforts they have nearly reached their target of £5,000! Wigan Warriors players joined the team last week to draw their Christmas raffle and show their support for the fantastic fundraising that has been happening. Thank you to everyone involved, we are so grateful 💜

  • We want to thank Jonathan for his incredible efforts in his ‘Christmas Marathon’ that he is running tomorrow on Christmas Eve. He is running in memory of his wife’s Auntie Angela who lost her battle with cancer at the Hospice in July earlier this year. He wanted to do something to show his thanks to the Hospice for the care she received during her time in the Inpatient Unit. Jonathan will be running from the Brick Community Stadium, around the Toughsheet Community Stadium in Horwich, down to Leigh Sports Village and back to the finish point at the Brick Community Stadium. Join us in wishing Jonathan luck as he takes on this incredible challenge! 🎅 If you would like to donate to Jonathan’s Just Giving page, you can do so here: https://lnkd.in/eyM2rp7h

  • This is encouraging news and shows that the Government is recognising the importance of hospice care and why more funding is needed. A big thank you to Hospice UK for all of your work on this.
