About us
WiCyS is an international non-profit membership organisation dedicated to bringing together and empowering women in cybersecurity from academia, research and industry. Founded by Dr. Ambareen Siraj at Tennessee Tech University in 2012, the initiative was created through the US Government National Science Fund with founding partners Cisco, Facebook and Palo Alto Networks. WiCyS has since grown into a global alliance of affiliates and community of experts with over 5000 members worldwide. WiCyS UK Affiliate, established in July 2020, is a community of UK cybersecurity enthusiasts out to serve a purpose: to recruit, retain, and advance women in cybersecurity. Whether you are a student, considering a career change, or an experienced professional in the cybersecurity workforce, WiCyS offers continuous mentoring, recruitment opportunities, learning, networking, and career development to women at all stages of their cybersecurity careers. Today, we honour the resilience, achievements, and contributions of persons with disabilities worldwide. It’s a day to reflect on the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities for everyone. Did you know? - An estimated 1.3 billion people experience significant disability—that’s 16% of the world’s population, or 1 in 6 of us. - Some persons with disabilities die up to 20 years earlier than those without disabilities. - Persons with disabilities have twice the risk of developing conditions such as depression, asthma, diabetes, stroke, obesity, or poor oral health. - These health inequities are driven by unfair conditions, including stigma, discrimination, poverty, exclusion from education and employment, and barriers in accessing healthcare. Diversity is our strength. by continuing to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and create opportunities, we can build a future where everyone has the chance to reach their full potential and every talent has space to thrive 💞 #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities #Inclusion #Accessibility #HealthEquity #WiCySCommunity Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS), Lynn Dohm, Saja Aljulaud, CISSP, Laura Reilly, Zoe Mackenzie, Julie Osborne

Tomorrow is National Computer Security Day! As we embrace an increasingly digital world, securing our systems is no longer optional, it's a necessity. 🚨 Did you know? The global cost of a data breach reached an average of $4.45 million in 2023. Cybercrime has surged, with over 7.6 trillion intrusion attempts last year—a 20% increase from 2022. Ransomware remains a major threat, with attacks targeting critical infrastructure rising by 17% year-on-year. Take simple but effective steps to protect yourself: update passwords, patch vulnerabilities, and stay informed about the latest threats. Every action counts in building a safer cyberspace! Thanks to Valentina Coppola Gomes dos Santos, our Community Ambassador for taking the time to highlight these key issues and share actionable tips in this post. #wicys Lynn Dohm, Zoe Mackenzie, Julie Osborne, Laura Reilly, Saja Aljulaud, CISSP
