News and updates on how we're building a better connected, more prosperous, fairer, greener and healthier West Midlands.
About us
These are exciting times. Growth is strong and optimism is high. Our region is at the forefront of change and we are the place to be in the UK. West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has been created to deliver an ambitious plan to drive inclusive economic growth in the West Midlands region and build a healthier, happier, better connected and more prosperous population. Made up of 18 local authorities and three Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and chaired by the Mayor of the West Midlands, WMCA is working together to move powers from Whitehall to the West Midlands and its locally elected politicians, who know this region best. This is a place determined to make its mark, and it is succeeding. The West Midlands’ magnificent past drives the region’s future. Its cities are built on industry and are now perfectly positioned to re-invent the industrial revolution for the future. This is a place built on social connection, collaboration and progress. Key priorities include transport; productivity and skills; housing and regeneration; industrial strategy; finance and investment and public service reform. We are a region on the move. Our time is now.

Staff at the WMCA donated ten sacks of toys to the Cash for Kids in the Midlands Mission Christmas appeal. 🎅🏻 A big thank you to everyone who donated 🎁❤️👏 We were able to donate gifts such as jigsaws, dolls, cuddley toys, action figures and arts and crafts toys - all going to a good home! 🧸 16,000 people across the Midlands are due to receive toys from the appeal this year; with many still on the waiting list, they need our help to get as many toys possible to children this Christmas. Every child deserves Christmas. Help deliver the magic. Donate a gift or give online. ⬇️ 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eK5vTB7

🧡 A must read post on recruitment anxiety from our Recruitment Partner Paula McInally. "Behind every CV, every email, every interview, there’s a person. And that person is often dealing with a lot more than we realise."
I get it. I’ve been there. I had a call with a candidate. We were chatting about an upcoming interview, when suddenly, they started crying. It wasn’t the usual pre-interview nerves. This was different. They were overwhelmed. Struggling with anxiety. I could hear it in their voice. And I just knew. I’ve been there. I’ve pulled out of job offers because change felt impossible. I’ve almost cancelled interviews for roles I was excited about, because my own anxiety told me I wasn’t good enough, before I even gave myself a chance. (One of those interviews I nearly cancelled was for the role I'm in now.) So, I shared my experiences. That voice that tells you you’ll fail. That you’re not enough. We all have it. Some of us just listen to it more than others. At first, I panicked. But we talked. Not about the interview, but about how they were really doing. They needed to know: - It's OK to feel this way. - It doesn’t mean they are weak or weird. - And they most definitely weren’t on their own. Behind every CV, every email, every interview, there’s a person. And that person is often dealing with a lot more than we realise. Sometimes, all it takes is someone who listens. A bit of understanding. Reassurance. That’s why I always try to make time in my diary for pre-interview check-ins. I make space for conversations, for the human side of the process. Job searching is hard. It’s not just the applications or interviews, it’s the weight of everything else that comes with it. We can’t take all that stress away, but we can show up with empathy, patience, and kindness. And sometimes, that’s enough to make a difference. #Recruitment #JobSearch #Wellbeing #Anxiety
