✈️💚Cardiac arrest survivor thanks ‘air-mazing’ airport lifesavers #AppreciationPost Alice Mogford had just landed at Cardiff Airport from a trip to Belfast when she collapsed in the arrivals hall and stopped breathing. Quick-thinking airport staff started the 'chain of survival' by giving CPR and shocking Alice with a defibrillator prior to the arrival of #TeamWAST crews. Alice said: “I’d like to relay my sincere thanks to everyone involved in saving my life. “I know now that the survival rate for cardiac arrests is really low, so I guess I was in the right place at the right time. “I get how the general public would freeze in that situation, but having lived through this first-hand, my message is that you can’t possibly do more damage, so give CPR a go.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eTsDf9RW

Introducing our new initiative to help people in a mental health crisis. 👇 Our mental health response vehicle provides specialist assessment, care and support for people with a mental health emergency who call 999 and require a face-to-face response. A senior mental health clinician and emergency medical technician work together to treat a patient’s mental health and physical needs, providing a holistic approach to care. Simon Amphlett, the Trust’s Specialist Clinical Lead for Mental Health, said: “Nearly all mental health calls to 999 are for or from someone in a crisis. “Many of these people will have thoughts of suicide or self-harm, and some will have acted on these thoughts. “Additionally, callers to 999 will be calling about a physical health issue but may also have a mental health condition that needs urgent consideration as a part of their care. “All of this means that we must respond holistically to people in crisis and requires us to work in an integrated way to meet the needs of callers. “This dedicated resource for people with very specific needs requiring emergency care helps puts us firmly on that path.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e-RtpVtJ #MentalHealth #WelshAmbulance #TeamWAST

Earlier this month, we welcomed Helen Whyley, Executive Director at the Royal College of Nursing Wales, to our Clinical Contact Centre in #Cwmbran, where we shared some of the work around developing remote care and better supporting patients who contact 999 and NHS 111 Wales. Helen met with nurses who were undertaking clinical screening and advising patients through NHS 111 Wales. She was also given an overview of the work completed on the new NHS 111 Wales patient management system. Helen said: “Visiting WAST is always a different experience for me, and I am always impressed by the continued changes and improvements the Trust seeks to make. “I was particularly impressed by the work of the teams involved in the development and rollout of the new NHS 111 Wales patient management system. “Equally, speaking with nurses in the 999 Contact Centre reinforced the importance of applying advanced clinical practice across healthcare settings where nurses play such a vital role. “I look forward to seeing how the increased role of nursing in the Trust continues to evolve and compliments the valuable work undertaken across Wales by the whole of the workforce.” Royal College of Nursing - Company, Liam Williams RN

We partnered up to launch a brand new set of resources aimed at improving pre-hospital care, thanks to findings from a study funded by Health and Care Research Wales. The 999 R.E.S.P.O.N.D study analysed real-world data on managing and responding to medical emergencies, identifying critical patterns in decision-making, communication and collaboration among emergency care teams. Professor Nigel Rees, our Assistant Director of Research and Innovation, said: “We are delighted to receive the funding from Health and Care Research Wales, which has been key in supporting this study. “We are also pleased to leverage the study’s findings to develop these resources that will ultimately strengthen trauma response capabilities across Wales.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/ejjKKuX4 #Research #EmergencyCare #Data #Insights #Communication #DecisionMaking #WelshAmbulance #TeamWAST Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service Cymru (EMRTS Cymru), Wales Air Ambulance Charity • Elusen Ambiwlans Awyr Cymru, University of Warwick, University of Bristol
