About us

University technical colleges (UTCs) are government-funded schools that offer 14–19 year olds a great deal more than traditional schools. An initiative started by The Baker Dearing Trust, UTC’s teach students technical and scientific subjects in a whole new way and are educating the inventors, engineers, scientists and technicians of tomorrow. The Watford UTC’s specialisms are Computer Science and Travel & Tourism and Event Management. All students will study a BTEC qualification in one of these areas alongside their GCSE’s or A Levels. A full curriculum can be found here. Our broad range of subjects have been selected to provide special focus on the technical skills, trades and technologies that support the computer and digital communication, and tourism industries. University of Hertfordshire is a co-sponsor alongside an impressive list of business partners including Hilton Worldwide, The Grove, Twin Technology, and Fujistsu. Paul Quinn is Acting Principal for The Watford UTC and has helped lead activities since our opening in September 2014.
