As we approach the end of the year, we've been reflecting on what has been a remarkable 2024. We began the year by launching our new values and behaviours framework, shaped by 75% of our people. This laid a strong foundation for our shared journey to deliver sustainable growth and success. A journey which was reflected in our strong financial results, and which aligned with the growth strategy set by Steven Petrie when he took over as Managing Partner in April. In June, Nick Gholkar stepped into the role of Executive Partner for Newcastle office, joining Executive Partners Emma Digby of Leeds and Liz Bottrill of Manchester. Throughout the year we have welcomed over 100 new colleagues across various departments, reinforcing our commitment to delivering exceptional service across a wide range of legal needs. And the year has been filled with countless other reasons to celebrate, such as our renowned events, award wins, the Newcastle office refurbishment and activities in support of our charities of the year. It's been a busy, but incredibly rewarding 12 months, as captured in this 2024 highlights reel. We would like to wish you and your families a joyful holiday season, and wish you a healthy and prosperous 2025.

Fintech firm, Klarna, has recently revealed that they haven't made a single hire in the past year, choosing instead to invest in artificial intelligence. As AI continues to transform industries, it raises important questions around accountability and legal liability, such as: who is responsible when an AI system fails, and what are the legal implications for businesses that rely on this technology? We're excited to hear the final pitches from the award-winning On the Up (North-East) CIC and Ward Hadaway - Emerging Talent Business Challenge! The children at a primary school in Shieldfield have showcased some fantastic ideas (mentioned in the post below) – and we can't wait to hear more about them! We'll let you know how the the future entrepreneurs get on!
🚀 We're just two weeks away from the final pitches for the award-winning On the Up (North-East) CIC Business Challenge at a primary school in Shieldfield, proudly supported by Ward Hadaway! Each group of young entrepreneurs has been tasked with creating a product and building a business around it. They take part in weekly activities to develop their business ventures, including logo design, filming adverts and preparing for their final pitch to the 'Dragons' (our very own trainees) in the final week. They have come up with some great ideas for products so far, including chopsticks which add flavour to your food, a hat with a cooling function and Bluetooth speaker, and even a Tupperware which doubles as a teleport! Our trainees have had the pleasure of attending these sessions, assisting the students with each activity, and imparting their knowledge about the importance of intellectual property law and the various elements of running a successful business. We can't wait to see the innovative ideas the students will present in their final pitches. Stay tuned for the grand finale! 🌟
