About us
EVERYONE IN THE UK SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO THRIVE. So we bring people together to overcome some of society’s most complex issues through the power of volunteering. We partner with communities to overcome adversity, tackling social isolation and loneliness, improving health, developing skills and opportunity and making sure young people can lead change. And because we’re a national charity, we do this at scale, sharing our expertise and building partnerships to make an even bigger impact. In 2020 we launched a new strategy – Volunteering Matters Strategy 2020. Based on the impact our volunteers and programmes have in communities across the UK, we are bringing people together through volunteering to build stronger communities so that everyone has an opportunity to thrive. Our place-based approach, which is shaped by local knowledge, energy and understanding, is designed to support people in their local communities to overcome the challenges they may face and to unlock their potential. We provide a platform for volunteers, young people, and communities to challenge existing structures and work with decision-makers to overcome barriers and inequalities. Across the Volunteering Matters family – including ProjectScotland, Get The Gen, Employee Volunteering and #iwill – we turn local knowledge and energy into action and progress, building stronger communities and a better future for all.

This International Migrants Day we’re proud to celebrate the resilience, strength, and contributions of migrants in our communities. In Dundee, our volunteers are helping to welcome New Scots through the Inspire Project. The project supports young refugees and asylum seekers to overcome barriers, build confidence, develop skills, and thrive in their new city. From exploring career options to fostering trusting mentorships, we’re empowering young New Scots to play an active role in their communities. Together, we’re creating opportunities and building stronger, more inclusive futures. Today, young minds are taking the lead at the Suffolk Libraries Hackathon! Students from Cliff Lane Primary and Ranelagh Primary in Ipswich have come together to discuss vital topics around community safety. We’re honoured to have Cllr Liz Harsant, Chair of Suffolk County Council, join us for this inspiring event. As part of the 16 Days of Activism and in the spirit of #DayOfHope, we’re proud to honour the memory of Damilola Taylor, continuing his legacy by empowering young people to share their hopes and solutions for building a fairer, safer society. Together, we’re creating meaningful change. @iwill_movement

We’re so grateful to Ellie Reeves MP for joining us at Lewisham Grandmentors to hear more about this impactful project and how we’re supporting care-experienced young people. Grandmentors share their life experience to guide young adults as they navigate life after care. They offer emotional support, practical advice, and a steady presence to help mentees unlock their potential and take charge of their futures. The project’s success relies on support from the community. Could you be a Grandmentor? Learn more or sign up here https://lnkd.in/eYv-yuW7 #Volunteering #Mentoring

Together with NCS - National Citizen Service Trust, we brought together a group of inspiring young people at The Hold in Ipswich to celebrate social action, share experiences, and explore their stories. These passionate changemakers tackled the challenges that often prevent young people from engaging with arts and heritage, creating a space where their voices are truly heard, valued, and celebrated.
