And finally, closing out our 'So What?!’ series are enough energy savings to power a small house... We’re not joking. During an Objectives and Insights session with Utopi, an unoccupied room was found to be the hottest onsite in a PBSA asset, reaching temperatures of 33°C. Site teams then entered the space to reduce the heating, creating potential monthly savings of: ⚡ 405kWh Energy ✅ 65.61kg CO₂ 💰 £28 utility cost Imagine if every 10th room in a building for 100 residents saved 405kWh monthly… The total energy saved would be 4050kWh, enough to power a medium household for over 4 months with a few small adjustments in one building. 🏡 Scaling these savings across a community amplifies the impact, making entire neighbourhoods greener, reducing energy demand, and creating a more resilient power grid. 🧐 Another week, another data story for our 'So What?!’ series. This time – planting a small forest with one room’s change in heating behaviour. A PBSA operator used Utopi’s outlier report to identify a room going up to 36°C. Usage of an external heater was identified, and the resident was educated on the impact of this. After this, use of the external heater was halted, and the room saw an average temperature reduction of 14°C. Over a heating season, this would’ve created a huge electricity cost of 5,600kWh if left unnoticed. By saving 5,600kWh of electricity, one room reduces potential heating season CO₂ emissions by over 907.2kg. That’s the equivalent to the CO₂ absorbed by approximately 45 mature trees over a year! 🌳 Imagine the environmental difference if every building achieved similar savings across outlying rooms - it’s like adding a small forest back to the Earth.
