#Charity News! RSPCA Coventry and District Branch receives over £250,000 to redevelop their cattery to tackle cat crisis in Coventry The RSPCA Coventry and District Branch has successfully received over £250,000 from the national RSPCA that will greatly help towards the overall cost of the redevelopment of the cattery at the Coundon Wedge Drive animal centre. The RSPCA Coventry and District is separately funded to the national RSPCA and had to submit a bid against a strict quality and best practice criteria to receive the grant. This redevelopment will enhance the quality of care for the cats but will also play a part in combating the rise in cat abandonment seen across the region since 2019. The 11% increase marks one of the highest levels of abandonment the charity has seen, this is alongside an increase via national RSPCA inspectors too, and is driven by factors such as the rising cost of living, mandatory microchipping, increased vet fees, a lack of neutering, and the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
