About us
SportExcel UK (formerly UK Sports Association) is a national charity and works directly with athletes from across the UK. SportExcel UK also works with agencies and athletes from grass roots sports opportunities through to the Virtus Global Games and IPC Paralympic Games. At an international level, SportExcel UK has the lead role in ensuring that all athletes with intellectual impairment wishing to compete at Great Britain and international level competition are appropriately classified with Virtus, the global organisation that advocates and supports elite sport for athletes with an intellectual impairment. Our work includes intellectual disability, Down syndrome and autism. At a UK level, SportExcel UK is the body that classifies athletes with intellectual impairment competing in the UK. SportExcel UK is recognised by UK Sport and is the only official and recognised Great Britain representative member of Virtus. SportExcel UK is a voting member of the National Paralympic Committee in the UK – the British Paralympic Association (BPA) and is a member of the Sport & Recreation Alliance land other key sports organisations and Governing Bodies.

EQUESTRIAN: Its getting serious now! Teams from across Europe and Australia have arrived in Sparsholt, Winchester, including our fab GB Team. Yesterday and today, settling in, training, preparation, including sewing GB flags alongside tea and cake in the stables! Tomorrow it all starts. The very first Virtus Sport Open European Dressage Championships! Horse checks, trot up, competition draw, Opening Ceremony all head of 2 days of fierce competition on Thursday and Friday. Are you heading to Sparsholt, Winchester to spectate and show your support for elite riders from across Europe and Australia? Want to know more? Spread the word and if you are in the area pop in, no ticket required and spectators very welcome! BRITISH SUCCESS! The 14 strong British Team has returned from the Virtus Sport European Championships in Sweden with 1 Gold, 5 Silver and 8 Bronze medals. A competitive event, and an important date in the Virtus Championship programme. A mix of experienced athletes and over half of the team making their Virtus debut, athlete performances showed promise from this determined group. We are proud to announce our 14 strong GB Team heading to Sweden for the Virtus Sport Open European Athletics Championships on 11th June. 10 athletes, 4 staff and a raft of medals on offer at what will be a very competitive event. Of the 10 athletes, we’re delighted to welcome 6 new athletes, making their international debut for GB, including one of our youngest competitors, Ella Richards, making selection at just 13 years old! Its Paralympic year - and here we go! Starting to see the real talent emerge as athletes from across the UK compete for their Paralympic spot. Remember, 3 sports in the Paralympic programme for athletes with intellectual impairment (learning disability) - swimming, athletics and table tennis. We’re looking forward to seeing who will be representing Great Britain in the S14 (swimming), T/F20 (athletics) and T11 (table tennis) classes this year.
