And that's a wrap on DEG Immersive Environments! Thanks to the DEG committee and to all of you who joined this event, exchanged best practice and shared your valuable insights with peers across the sector. As well as the University of Leeds and Loughborough we were delighted to hear today from presenters at Cardiff University, Birkbeck, University of London, King's College London, The Open University, University of Sheffield and Liverpool John Moores University as they considered ways to implement technology with a limited budget, how technology has advanced and possible accessibility constraints. #immersivetechnologies #HE #FE #connect #share #transform #networking #UCISA

And now for another engaging session, this time from Katie Gardner, Lecturer in Arts-based Pedagogical Practices at University of Leeds. Katie is sharing her approach to and experiences teaching with a range of VR applications and experiences (including VictoryXR and Gravity Sketch) to scaffold and encourage students' confidence in experimenting and taking creative risks in VR and MR environments. Katie is exploring the pedagogy behind her selection and design of VR in the classroom and reflecting on how these designs have changed in response to five years of student feedback. #immersivetechnologies #HE #FE #connect #share #transform #networking #UCISA

We've started the day hearing from Gary Burnett, Professor of Digital Creativity at Loughborough University. He is sharing the university’s concept of an XR ‘driving test’ where students have to demonstrate a level of competency with the technology before they are permitted to use XR in an actual learning session. Presenting at Birkbeck, we are also live streaming the session to attendees at University of Leeds. https://buff.ly/3ZPgG2t #immersivetechnologies #HE #FE #connect #share #transform #networking #UCISA #Digitaleducationgoup

Following a collaboration with Policy Connect, UCISA held an event at House of Lords earlier this week where we saw an insightful discussion on Procurement of Tech and IT Services in Higher Education. Thank you to Lord Philip Norton for hosting us, along with Lauren Edwards MP for chairing. Thank you also to UCISA members James Crooks, Mel Gomes and Robert Moore for leading the discussion. #connect #share #transform #HE #UCISA #procurement #ITservices
It was great to join colleagues from UCISA, and across the Higher Education sector at a policy symposium yesterday kindly hosted in the House of Lords by Lord Norton and chaired by Lauren Edwards to discuss the challenges (and hopefully opportunities?) around technology procurement in HE. It was good to see a broad set of organisations engaged including Jisc, Cabinet Office and Crown Commercial Service. Top work from James Crooks, Mel Gomes and Robert Moore. It is clear to me that the challenges are not simply about our mechanics of procurement (although this is sometimes the case) - but about the complexity of our operations both within our organisations but more broadly, the necessity to manage a set of ever-changing integrations with national bodies. Simplification and streamlining both locally and nationally are key to bringing more suppliers to the marketplace, and reducing the time and cost of system adoption and implementation. Thanks to Deborah Green, Sian Thomas and Policy Connect for organising the event.
