British Heart Foundation Heart Hero of the Year I thought I’d reflect a little on what being recognised as the BHF Heart Hero of the Year means to me and to Wave Wrangler. There’s a notion that Jonny Wilkinson raises in his podcast series ‘I am’, that suggests we define ourselves in the past based on our opinions and philosophies of the present. At the point I set off from La Gomera, my opinions of myself and the task I was about to undertake mainly revolved around ‘adventurous, competitive, diligent, exciting’. Now, a year on, exactly to the day, following further involvement with the British Heart Foundation, and being named their Heart Hero of the Year, I can look back at the same moment (and subsequent 44 days 1 hour), through a very different lens. From the very inception of my campaign I continually refined the metrics I would use to define success. These ended up being, in order of importance (as the last two are intangible they somehow became less important): 1. Position in the Race  2. Time taken to cross 3. Funds Raised for Charity 4. Benefit to Sponsors 5. Awareness for the charity’s cause (helping those with ill-heart-heart diagnoses) Receiving an award does not of course change the quantum these achieved over the past year; as such my own opinion of my success or otherwise does not change. There is however a caveat to this!  Being recognised at the Heart Hero Awards means that the intangible measure of confidence gained by those diagnosed with a heart issue, after hearing my story was at least significant enough to warrant accolade; and in fact gains a new stage for amplification! I can therefore look back to the race through this lens, changing the definition of myself in the middle of the Atlantic, from “competitive and adventurous”, to “inspiring and confidence building” - this means the world to me.❤️ Thank you again to all supporters and those sharing my story. Happy International Women's Day 2024! TJP would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the amazing women that work at Timothy James & Partners! Their expertise, skills and passion contribute to our success and inspire us daily. We are proud that at TJP that we have an almost exact 50/50 split of female & male employees, with women tilting the mark in favour representing 51% of the staff population 😊 For IWD, last year, Jessica Ayres spoke to Citiwire New Model Adviser about being a woman in finance, and highlighted how gender should not be a barrier. She gives some great advice and speaks about her own experience; I’d recommend everyone take a few minutes out of their day to take a look. And finally, congratulations to Sara Bibaj, who was the winner of last month’s TJP Recognition Reward. This accolade was awarded for consistently being vigilant in following the correct procedures, her unwavering attention to detail and hard-working, focussed attitude.

TRAILBLAZER Wave Wrangler Elliot Awin arrived into English Harbour, Antigua at dawn, thrilled to make land after an incredible 44 days at sea, alone. He has made history as the first person to row an ocean with a pacemaker - which he did to show that the possibilities for adventure are endless for people with heart arrhythmia.
